I knew Elise had a crush on Kian but I just assumed it was one of those harmless ones. You know like in those movies where the best friend just blushes whenever the best friend's brother walks into the room. I didn't think it was a full on reciprocated sexual tension type of crush. Okay that was a lot of words to describe a crush but it's true! Instead of reacting I just murmured an apology and slowly left them to it. I quietly shut the door and ran downstairs to my dad.
"Um dad," I awkwardly said as a sat back down next to him.
"Yes pumpkin?" The irony of the pet name was purposeful. Pumpkins are a typical autumn item and my name was in fact Summer. Not that anyone reads into it that deeply.
"Did you fail to notice that the girl who's doing homework with Kian was actually Elise? You know my best friend who you've met about a gazillion times?" He looked confused.
"I didn't even see her to be honest. They just ran upstairs, Kian shouted down saying they were doing homework when I asked and that was it." Phew. He didn't know.I decided to have a shower. It was the only place that would block out the noise of my brother and my best friend doing it and my dad lecturing me on whatever article he was currently reading. I don't think they noticed that I knew Elise was there. Surely they wouldn't have carried on if they did? Surely Elise would come and explain to me what the hell I just walked in on? Surely she's a better friend than that..
I decided during my shower that throwing a hissy fit about the situation wasn't necessary. A lesson I learned from the film The Edge Of Seventeen was to not be selfish and let your best friend and brother be happy, even if that is together. I was just praying that Kian wasn't using her for some easy sex. I couldn't deal with the awkward aftermath if they were to end things badly. Being stuck in the middle of situations like that was not ideal.
After finishing my night time routine (which I won't bore you with the details of; if you want a detailed night routine watch a 2014 beauty guru video) I chose to simply sit on my bed and read a book.
I know, fun!
After about half an hour of reading the Wizard Of Oz - yes, I love the classics, I was pulled out of my concentration from the sound of Elise trying to sneak out with my brother. I could tell she was trying her hardest to be quiet because even from her laugh I would recognise it was her. She wasn't doing it very gracefully though, she was stomping down the stairs and I could hear her giggle and then hear Kian go "shhh she might hear you."
Kian Rodriquez: the king of subtlety.—-
I woke up in the worst mood. Mostly because I fell asleep with the book open on my lap and naturally I have lost the page because I'm an idiot. Also because Elise has been sneaking behind my back shagging my brother. Well I don't know if they were having sex but I know what they were doing was not platonic. It made me wonder if they were together in a room at that party whilst I was getting assaulted by Luke.
I still can't believe he did that to me after I told him I didn't believe the rumours about him. I can however believe the fact that he was chatting rubbish about me being the one all over him. Ever since that night I haven't felt the same. I am one of the lucky ones who doesn't have super serious anxiety. I haven't had an anxiety attack in my life. But what happened at the party has put me on edge. I can no longer sleep with the lights off. I always feel so nervous when I'm at school or around people who aren't my friends or family. I tend to get really shakey and irritable when a stranger approaches me even if it's just to ask for the time. After getting ready I rushed downstairs. I skipped breakfast with my dad and Kian because 1. I wanted to avoid any awkwardness between me and my twin. I just knew any conversation we would have at that table would end in me blurting out who I saw in his bed last night. 2. I needed to be at college early to hand in some homework.
I jumped in my car and started it.
It wouldn't start.
You're having me on.
I looked at my dashboard and noticed that my fuel dial was empty. I had enough left to last me a week? Has it just drained all my fuel on its own?
Immediately I had my suspicions.
After numerous attempts I gave up and ran inside.
"Kian!!!" I yelled as I walked into the house. From the look on his face and the bowl of cornflakes that was now on the floor, he knew exactly what I was mad about.
"Have you been using my car to avoid filling yours up you cheeky bastard?" I made sure to say this loud enough for my dad to hear (I obviously went quieter when I swore otherwise he would belt me). Kian nodded.
"I'm sorry!! I didn't wanna waste any petrol dropping off El-" he paused. They really have no idea. "E-all these girls I've had home everyday this week. It's expensive being a lady's man you know!" I frowned. Either Elise had been in Kian's bed every night or another girl has. For her sake I'm praying it's the former.
"As long as you drop me off from school AND pay for my next fuel top up you're sound." He groaned.
"Ugh but I only start in 2 hours!!" He sounded like a little child. But after minutes if not seconds of me staring into his soul, he grabbed his car keys and left the house with me following behind.
