Chapter I

So much time has passed since I last saw him...since I last saw those glimmering, emerald eyes. Even now as I stare into my reflection on the pristine, crystal, clear glass; I can still see him standing behind me.

It's been a little over a year since the incident. The press and authorities labeled it a "tragic accident". Almost everyone on that damned ship was murdered. Only a select few of us, them being: Sebastian, Ciel, Grell, Ronald, Adrian, and I, know the real truth.

I can still remember the taste of the salty sea rubbing on my chapped lips, filling my lungs, and pushing me deeper and deeper into the abyss that was the Atlantic Ocean. I prayed he would come and rescue me. No such luck had found me. Sebastian was the one who pulled me from my seemingly inevitable death. I had never felt so alone as I did floating in the water...the waves consuming my body.

I reached my frail hands towards my cheeks and wiped away the light tears trickling down my face. Even after all this time, the mere thought of that night brings tears to my eyes and goosebumps to my skin.

"My Lady?" A voice echoed through the door to my personal chamber.

"Y-Yes?" I said in my shaky voice.

"May I come in?" he asked.

My silence was his answer as he promptly opened the door. There he stood, my gleaming butler in black, Sebastian. He has always been by my side since I was a young girl. I saw a brief sigh escape his nude lips while he examined my facial expressions.

"My Lady...again?" he questioned. I fumbled with my fingers, running my index through the silk lace of my rose-colored dress.

"I have no idea what you are talking about!" I retorted, attempting to mask my showing sorrow. He shook his head as his eyes softened.

"You needn't hide your emotions from me, My Lady. You know I am always with you to support your every endeavor and undertaking," he gently reminded.

"I know, Sebastian...you've been nothing but faithful and loyal to my health...I am truly and eternally grateful," I said with a small smile.

"Now then, that's the smile I love to see. Master Ciel thinks it necessary for you to join him on a nice outing into town. Your 21st birthday is coming up in a matter of days and you have yet to select a new dress for your ball!" he complained.

I chuckled and walked up to his side.

"Grasp my hand?"

He softly smiled and gently held my right hand whilst guiding me out the door.

"Of course, My Lady..."

"Ciel and Elizabeth are joining us?"

"Of course, you know your sister-in-law would never miss an opportunity to spend time with you," Sebastian said.

"Correct...maybe I wish to spend time alone though..."

"Normally, My Lady, your wish would be my command, however, I, too, think this would prove to be an excellent source to lift your spirits from your perpetual sorrow..." My head dipped as every word he said was true. "Look now, there is your brother, waiting for you!"

Looking down the red-carpeted staircase I was able to see my older brother, Ciel, standing with his wife, Elizabeth, at the door.

"Hurry along now!" she gently called for me.

Sebastian and I made our way to the bottom of the stairs and finally reached them. I hugged both of them and thanked them for having me.

"Of course, silly!" Elizabeth shouted, "We're family after all!"

I nodded my head.

"Quite right. Now then, sister, let us go!"

The four of us headed out the door and into a carriage where our journey for the day would begin...
