I could feel my breath slipping away from me as I was pulled under the enormous ship called the Campania. I could see her reaching her arm out toward me. She had a desperate look in her eye as she completely submerged under the dark, Atlantic, ocean. A part of me wanted to save her, for me to be her savior, but out of the corner of my eye I caught Sebastian plunging deeper into the water, grasping onto her frail arm, and pulled her to his chest. Our eyes met and he had known that he won. He smirked and swam above the water. I went in the opposite direction and once my lungs breached the cold, cold air I latched on to a large metallic object, holding onto it for support.
I watched him swim off with her and I could feel my heart begin to slowly shatter, like someone chipping away at a chunk of ice. I waited there, on that piece of metal junk until she had safely reached a boat and was on her way back home. Oh, how I wished I could have done more to prevent her from getting abord this cursed ship. Was there more I could have said? More I could have done? Why was what I did do not enough? These thoughts wandered aimlessly around in my head until I could bare it no longer. I knew that she would never want to see me again, not after what I had done and how I simply left her to fend for herself. I knew she would despise me. I could never look her in the eye again, not even for a moment. As much as I pained me, I knew that this was the way that it needed to be. To never see the love of my life again, a sacrifice that one could not make so easily, although a necessary one. I could not bear to see her so infuriated at me. Those eyes of her that once were full of love and hope for our distant future would no longer cease to exist. My final wish before I depart yet again is that she can find peace and comfort, comfort that I would be unable to provide.
"I love you so, but darling, here I must go..."
