Imagine your Mav's daughter and you followed in his footsteps. What happens when you along with some of your old flight buddies are brought back to Top Gun for the uranium mission?
----------------------------------
Your knee bounced up and down as you rested against the backing of your chair.
Walking into the hangar that morning you had received some grief from your friends who had witnessed your and Rooster's conversation the night before.
But all in all, they were happy to see that you were both happy again. Since Hangman and Coyote had to pick up your broken pieces when Rooster left and something with Phoenix trying to get Rooster out of his funk.
Now you all sat there, vulnerable as ever waiting to hear why you had all been called back to Miramar.
To your left was Rooster who was sitting hunched forward with his elbows resting on his knees and his hands folded. You could tell that he was a bit nervous as well. You gave his knee a quick squeeze and he returned a sweet smile of thanks.
After the attention was called and you all rose before Warlock took the podium and began to explain briefly what was going on. After crushing everyone's egos he began talking up your instructor.
Part of you was excited, who was this legend that you were going to get to learn from?
The clicking of boots echoed in the hanger but Warlock's voice still carried proudly through as he continued to introduce the instructor.
You watched as Hangman looked behind to get a view of who it was and immediately cringe, which caused him to shift uncomfortably in his seat and face forward.
As the mystery instructor continued making his way to the front you didn't pay much attention to see who it was but you saw the Rooster tense when he realized who it was.
But before you could look up from your hands, Warlock's last word caused you to freeze for the second time in twenty-four hours.
"Call sign...Maverick"
You could have sworn all the blood drained from your body in that instant. Raising your head slowly you saw the man who raised you smiling in the front of the room.
"Morning", Maverick said. He then moved his gaze to look at the row you and Rooster took up, the smile faltering when he saw the glares he was getting in response.
Maverick did his talk about how everything you all knew was garbage and that to be successful you needed to learn to fly outside of the traditional box.
After being dismissed to gear up for the flight training for the day you rushed out as fast as you could without causing a scene. Not wanting to stick around for Mavericks crap.
"Doll", Rooster called after you tried to keep up. After you did not respond to him and kept walking to the locker room he began to jog so he could catch up.
"Doll please listen to me", he pleaded.
"What the hell are you going to say Bradley", you yelled, your frustration being unfairly aimed against him.
"You need to calm down", he said, heaving out a worried sigh.
"I'm fine", you argued.
"Clearly not. And why should you be? You just saw your dad after three years Doll", he cried.
"Don't call him that"
"Fine, you just saw Maverick for the first time in three years, that's clearly going to mess up your head", Rooster said.
