Attending weddings, or at this point, renewal of vows made her uncomfortable. Most of her friends are celebrating their silver wedding anniversaries at the most beautiful beaches or restaurants.
In contrast, she celebrated her silver wedding anniversary at the court, signing an annulment paper instead of renewing each other's vows.
Well, it's been seven years since she annulled her marriage with the current president of her country. All eyes will be on her; of course, they will.
The one thing she also hates at weddings like this is that she has the same friends as her ex-husband. So it's most likely they are both invited.
Being married for 25 years can make your world small.
Leni was having a good conversation with her long time friend when Bongbong came inside. It created a fuss when they saw the president coming.
Shanni, the bride, looked at Leni to make sure she was okay. "Leni, I'm really sorry for inviting him. I tried to discourage John na huwag na siyang iinvite kaso alam mo naman. Sobrang close nung dalawa"
"Ano kaba Sha, it's okay. It's your 25th wedding anniversary. Besides, sanay naman na kami mag kita sa mga events. We know how to do this by now, its been what... five years" she said.
Shanni didn't got a chance to answer her when they saw Bongbong and John coming their way. Leni just breath heavily and smiled at him, "hi" she greeted him. Bongbong kiss her cheek, "hello lovey" he retained their endearment, Leni doesn't know why.
"Leni, kelan ang graduation ni Jajah?" John asked. For 25 years, Leni and Bongbong had three beautiful children; Yannie, Elijah, and Abby.
Bongbong firmly said, "Next week." Leni lowered her head and bit her lip as she informed him, "it's actually three days from now." He shrugged and began chatting with John about their upcoming golf outing.
Leni was looking in the other direction, so Shanni motioned for her to turn around. As they approached, she noticed a stunning young woman in a skintight dress approaching them. After a simple shake of her head from Leni, the woman reached for Bong's hand.
"Hi Charlotte," Leni said, referring to Bong's current girlfriend. Charlotte is two years older than Yannie. Leni was taken aback when Bongbong revealed that he is dating Charlotte. When the news broke, Bongbong quickly called Leni to tell her that he wasn't going to tell anyone.
"Hello" Charlotte greeted them. Shanni did not acknowledge her, only John. Leni looked at Bong, it was the first time he brought Charlotte with him in events like this. She kept telling herself that it was okay, but she was rather furious that he brought her to the renewal of vows of their friends.
"Anyway, I have to go. I need to help Abby pack her things for college" Abby got a scholarship in NYU, she opted to study abroad while her dad is the current president. She doesn't want any attention as much as possible.
"See you on three days, where are you going to stay btw" Bongbong asked.
"I'll be staying in Plaza hotel, how about you?" Bongbong looked at Charlotte, waiting for her to answer, "oh we also booked in Plaza hotel"
"We?" Leni asked surprisingly, "I'm sorry, Bongbong did not mention you are coming. Anyway, bye, see you then"
"Hatid na kita" Shanni said as she followed Leni. "Do you think they are getting serious?" Shanni enquired.
"I don't know, and I don't care." She replied. "I'm really sorry about this Leni," Shanni said as she took a deep breath. "Hindi ko ininvite si Charlotte, hindi ko alam bakit siya kasama."
"I told you it was fine; just enjoy your day." They said their goodbyes and parted ways. Leni shut the door when it suddenly opened again, she startled to see Bong, "can we talk?" He asked. She waited for him to speak but all he did was look at her.
"Bong, what? I told you I have to go" she said.
"I'm sorry hindi ko alam na we are staying in the same hotel for Jajah's graduation. We can go some other hotel if—"
"It's okay Bong, wala na rin kayong mahahanap na hotel around Jajah's school since fully booked na according kay Yannie kaya iisang room nalang din ang na booked namin" she said.
"Look, lovey, if you don't want Charlotte in Jajah's graduation it's okay. I will just talk to her"
"Oh it's fine pero mas ma appreciate ko kung sasabihin mo saakin ahead and sinabi mo na ba kala Jajah about dito?" Leni knew that her children doesn't like Charlotte, she doesn't want to surprise them also.
"Hindi pa" Bongbong answered.
"What? Sabihin mo na sakanila, after all, if this thing between you two are going to be permanent mas okay na lagi nilang nakikita si Charlotte para masanay sila."
"I'll talk to them" he whispered. Leni just stood in front of him, waiting for him to say more, "I'm really sorry about this Leni"
She was getting annoyed that she constantly heard them apologizing, she understands that they are thinking about her feelings but it like they doesn't know her at all. She could handle this "Why is everyone apologizing? I said it's okay." She said irritated.
"I know, I know you are strong lovey but this is all new—"
"Bong," Leni interrupted him, "I moved on. You can date whoever you want"
"Are you in a relationship?" Leni was caught off guard by the sudden inquiry into her dating life. Bongbong had never asked her that question since they had broken up.
"No" she simply replied.
