I finished up every last drop of the hot chocolate in the mug before I got up to pay.

Every drop.

I hadn't expected this place to be so good. I mean the food was delicious alongside the server.

I got to the counter to pay and saw an elegant old woman standing behind it.

"Um... Excuse me?" I politely called for her "I'd like to pay now".

"Sure thing honey!" she said in a cheery tone. Her voice sounded motherly and welcoming. She had a southern accent which I had also noticed in jakes voice. It just wasn't as noticeable.

"Oh, you're done already?" I heard Jake's voice "How was the food?".

"It was amazing!" I exclaimed.

"Oh, so you're the darling girl he told me about" the old lady clapped her hands as her face lit up.

"Oh, yeah, sorry for not introducing you" Jake said walking closer "Aunt Melissa, this is Violet, and Violet this is the aunt that u heard yelling around with the oh-so-scary threats".

"You deserved it!" she said grabbing his ear as he squirmed around "Now get back to work or I'll go through with the oh-so-scary threat!".

"Geez, sorry mom!" he mocked walking away, yelping when she smacked his head.

"BYE, SWEETHEART!" I heard him yell from the kitchen.

"Anyway dear! He told me that a really pretty girl loved my pancakes and hot chocolate! I felt so happy hearing that" she said grabbing my cheeks.

"Ah! Yes! They were really good Ms. Melisa" I replied slightly in pain trying to get a bit of distance, but she had a steel grip.

"Oh, nonsense! Call me Melisa dear girl" she said walking behind the counter again as I tried handing her the money "Oh! You're good! It's on the house!" she said as soon as she noticed the bills.

"But-"

"I insist!" she said pushing my hand away "Just visit us again. It'll be lovely having you!"

"I definitely will! Thank you" I said walking away.

Well... she was nice... I LOVED HER!

I felt cold envelope me as soon as I got out of the café. The season here was cold all year around and I liked it. The summers were apparently not even summers considering the temperature. And the best this was that the climate was apparently never moist or humid due to less water vapor in the city.

I hopped on towards my car after I took a deep breath, inhaling the cold air and drove to school.

In the school's parking lot, I saw that most of them were taken other than 2 openings in a row in the safest corner where my car wouldn't get keyed.

I wonder why...

anyway...

I quickly parked in the spot right next to the wall that was hella clean. I wonder how the fuck that was even possible. There was nothing else other than a few cigarette butts.

I walked through the open doors and met with a very crowded hallway that had groups of people everywhere. It surprisingly wasn't congested and had a lot of space to move around as well.

The most surprising thing was how clean and huge it was. Even the lockers weren't some absurd color, they looked classy. Now I know why the school was so popular.

I walked up to some random dude that held his books to his chest and looked really nervous.

Oh... he was a nerd.

Hey, look... I never said nerds don't exist... I just hate it when they get bullied. Like how is being able to read a lot and scoring good a bad thing?

Therefore... bullies are just jealous and insecure teenagers.

"Hey! I'm new here... do you mind showing me to the principals?" I asked in a friendly voice.

"Um... Su-sure" he stuttered "follow me," he said as he started walking away. I nodded and continued behind him.

He wore a simple grey sweatshirt with skinny black jeans and a pair kinda dirty converse. The thing that made him seem like a typical nerd though was the big pair of glasses that sat on his nose bridge. He was kinda cute tho...

"Here" he pointed to a door next to him "I'm Arthur by the way" he put his hand out.

"Thanks! I'm Violet, I hope to see you around soon" I introduced shaking his hand.

"Nice name! Anyway, I'll leave you to it. I really hate that old man" he waved as he walked away.

The day was going fine till now. Now rude people, no people like... mom.

Yet.

I knocked on the huge doors and heard a stern voice from inside permitting me to go in.

"Um... hello sir, I'm here for the schedule?" I said politely.

"Ah! Yes! Yes! the new student. Take a seat, I need to speak with you a bit" he said pointing at the seat in front of him as he dialed up someone on his intercom.

He wore an entire suit along with the vest and the tie. He was an old man with an almost white beard and a receding hairline. He looked sophisticated and had a huge office. He wore an expensive-looking watch and polished shoes that clacked every time he walked.

Damn... he was dedicated.

"Bring the new students' schedule please" he spoke into the mic as I moved along and sat on the chair without making even a damn noise.

"So, miss Violet, I've seen the records from your previous school... they have been outstanding and I hope they continue to be so" he stated to which I just replied with a 'yes sir'.

It's not like I'm allowed to score any less or else...

"It's pretty unusual for someone to join mid-semester but I understand that your father got a new job, so I was willing to make an exception. I hope you don't cause any trouble since we have enough of that already or else, we'll be forced to ring up your parents after 3 detentions" he warned, and I just nodded.

Fear already rose along my throat at the mention of my parents receiving a complaint about me. I was already a disappointment...

I didn't wanna be a burden. I felt bad for my parents because they had a daughter like me. Useless and good for nothing.

My brother was so much better than me, he helped around with dads work and never let mom down. Why did I have to be born so useless...

"Miss Sandler, my assistant, will hand you your schedule at the main desk. Have a good day" his voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Thank you, sir" I said getting up and walking out the door.

I quickly walked out to the main desk since the first class had already begun and I didn't want to miss anything due to the fear of losing grades.

"Excuse me?" I tapped my finger on the main desk "Um... I'm here for the schedule?" I enquired politely.

"Yeah, are you uh... Violet Miller? The new junior?" she enquired after looking at my file. I replied with a yes and a nod.

"Ok. Here's your schedule. Your first class today is English. You'll find the class on the first floor down the hall to the left. It should be room 301" she instructed.

"Thank you" I replied grabbing the sheet out of her hand and waking up the staircase.
