——𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆 until day succumbed to night, the air growing colder as Alaska made her way back to the Reservation.
As her hands rested on the wheel of the car she couldn't help but take notice of the subtle tremble under her skin. She wasn't nervous, was she? What was there to be nervous about?
Maybe it was the fact that this is the first time she would be hanging out with a big group of people since moving. Or that she hasn't been to a bonfire in years and she didn't know how to act.
Deep down, she felt like she knew the answer.
When she finally arrived at the beach, the sun was nearly gone and the fire burned brightly. Memories came rushing back to her as she scanned over everyone who was there.
Sam sat on the wooden logs with a woman, talking to Billy and Harry. Sue was sat on the other side of the bonfire, talking with who she could only assume was Seth. Further down the beach, closer to the water, she saw a bunch of kids closer to her in age: Jaelyn, Jacob, Jared, another girl, and Paul.
Her palms grew sweaty and shakier as she moved to turn the key out of the ignition. It never felt like this then.
She slipped out of her car, slamming the door shut. Nervously, she wiped her hands on the sides of her jeans.
Just as she began approaching the beach, a loud voice called out to her. "Al?!"
Her attention broke away from the boy, her eyes flickering over to see Sue with a bright smile on her face. Relief blew over Alaska in the easy acceptance of her presence.
A grin broke out on the girls face, letting herself fall back into the familiar embrace.
"I haven't seen you in so long," Sue gushed. "You've grown up so much."
