" It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. "

This one is my Indian masala mix of Pride and Prejudice ...... Being a regency classics' fan since early years of school I very well understand that quite many of the fans do not like such versions .....

They take it as an attempt at demening and insulting classics and its authors ......
I humbly apologize to them and assure you this is no such thing ......

On the contrary it is something I wanted to write this owing to my early days that I enjoyed reading classics ......

And sorry do not expect regency language rather you could expect an n number of errors in my normal english as well ........

Coming back to the story .......

This story follows the turbulent relationship between Tejasswi Prakash, the daughter of a country gentleman, and Karan Kundrra, a rich aristocratic landowner. They must overcome the titular sins of pride and prejudice in order to fall in love and marry.

Will they be able to overcome their own emotional predicaments and overlook the other persons flaws or the budding love of theirs would forever be lost under the pressure of societal norms. .......

The Prakash Family

Prakash family is a simple middle class family settled in a small village of Shiral in the country side of Maharashtra .... ..

It is a family that although has n number of troubles and clash of thoughts and morals amongst themselves still seems to be tolerating each other to remain a happy family .......

It is a family of seven people altogether ...... A husband and wife that is Mr. and Mrs. Prakash who stay along with their five daughters ....... To be precise five unmarried daughters ......

So, lets get started with a brief introduction of the characters of the story .......

Mr. Prakash:

Age: 65 yrs old

Qualification: B.A. in Literature ....

Mr. Vikas Prakash is an intelligent but eccentric and sarcastic man ....... He is the patriarch of the Prakash household ...... the husband of Mrs. Prakash and the father of five daughters.

He is an actively involved father, but only when it concerns his two eldest daughters ...... He is drawn to his first daughter ............ by her beauty, serene benevolence, and self-discipline (conspicuously like and unlike her mother), and drawn even more to little Tejasswi by her quick intelligence (very like his own as he believes). Out of the two also it was, Tejasswi who was the most dear to him .....

He scorns the rest of the family. He does not care for society's conventions and mocks his wife's obsession with finding suitable husbands for their daughters.

Mr. Prakash had been initially captivated by his wife's youth and beauty, and the illusion of good humour that his wife's charms presented. However, he soon realised that she was of "weak understanding and illiberal mind", and any true affection he had for her ended. Leaving him bereft of even slightest of respect for her. ......

Mr. Prakash was in the class of the Landed Gentry.
His profession is being a "gentleman." But they are relatively poor, because he mismanaged his money and estate ........

At present the wealth he earns sums up to about 2,000,000 a year, derived almost entirely from his 10 acres of land (that is leased on rental agreements to some peasants and tenants for farming and living purpose) which, unfortunately for his daughters, was entailed.

Yes, entailed ....... Mr. Prakash has no male heirs, thus upon his death his estate is entailed to go to his distant cousin Mr ....... rather than to any of his daughters.

This mean't that upon his death his family would be left with no money and no place to stay .....

An important reason why Mrs. Prakash wanted to eagerly grab any and every rich accomplished man to marry off her daughters to ......

It was for the benefit of all of the family and ofcourse most importantly herself ...... She surely didn't want to be stranded homeless and penniless after her husband's death ........

Fed up of his wife and youngest three daughters .... He spends most of his time in his library either reading books or answering mails ........
