There came the day, in which her luck must have run out.

It was only days since the disease appeared, but even so, the velocity of its spreading caused cities, countries, and the whole world to collapse. The infection, which no scientist predict, took away people's humanity, changed them into monsters, put a brother against a brother, a father against a son, and a partner against a partner.

In the world, about which she read in the comics, saw in movies, and witnessed with her own, living eyes, survival was more important than love. She observed the death on many levels, for example, her friends, uncle, and even father died just in front of her, and in some examples because of her, hence leaving her all on her own.

Subsequently, she lived alone, without any company, while the loneliness was eating her alive the same way the infected were feeding themselves with survivalists. For five days, she cursed her recklessness, while running away from chasing her horde of contaminated.

Her legs were beginning to give up on her, just so to fasten up each time she glanced back at only an increasing amount of hunters. Eight zombies, she gasped for the air, jumping over the part of the fallen wall. She was hounded by eight zombies!

Every minute there passed was only encouraging her to give up, but what was keeping her alive was common sense and the hope of her cross-bowing aim skill. Momentarily, she turned around to shoot the arrow into the group, just to be met with the same feeling that killed her father. She couldn't kill, she swallowed, continuing to escape after wasting almost two seconds standing still.

It was later on when her eyes teared up at the view of the dark, hidden alley behind the corner. Sinking into it, she stopped breathing, awaiting the chasers to spread out after losing the track of her. While that happened, she inhaled soundly and panted, after almost the full four minutes of not breathing.

Looking around, she didn't observe much, besides the street, covered by blood, bodies, and buildings parts as glass or stone, the dumpsters in front of her, filled with meat and bones, but also the pair of intense, toxic, green eyes. For a moment there, she gaped at them taken aback until their owner growled at her.

Suddenly, the dark, black figure threw itself at her and she barely dodged it, sinking her head between her knees. Subsequently, she stood up, with the attacker, who happened to be an infected boy in between the entrance of the alley and her. Stunned, she waited for his move and observed him, carefully.

Like an animal, he was motionless and awaited the moment when she made any false movement, proving to her he was infected. Other than that, she analyzed his light, rotten green skin, his dark, soaked-in-blood black hair, the same narrowed, green eyes, and the wide body build, that overwhelmed her skinny and short figure almost twice.

Finally, limping, he stepped toward her, while she flinched back, startled. His snarls were mixing with her hyperventilation and whimpering until she slowly loaded her crossbow. Forthwith, witnessing it, he pounced at her, but before he could catch her she jumped at the dumpster, surprising him. Balancing at its edge, she didn't let her eyes leave the aggressor and they widened as he whacked the plastic surface, causing her to fall to the ground.

Straightaway, she moved away on her fours, unsuccessfully, because he grasped her leg and pulled her to himself. Thus, she ended up just under him while he leaned over her, snarling straight into her face.

Instinctively, she searched for anything nearby that could save her life, and without any regret, she grabbed the thrown-down building fundamental and smacked it into his face. After the motion, he wailed, gripping the place of impact, giving her the time to stand up and strike the back of his head with it, sending him to the ground.
