Lilith

"This is the second time she has been badly hurt in the name of the witch's safety." I know that voice. "How long are we going to let this go on, Xav?"

"It's not our call. Wednesday is her family-"

"Bullshit! We're her family, or have you forgotten our promise so easily, Huga?"

"Do not mock her culture!" The second voice hisses in anger and I fight the urge to sooth them, to bring them comfort. Especially as I feel a hand link with mine.

"I'm not. I'm reminding you of the importance familial bonds are to dragons, the pride they take in bestowing 'mother tongue' names."

"We can discuss this later." The voice commands, clear of all emotion and I feel a soft touch graze my cheek. "What did you tell Wednesday when you came across her?"

"Well she was quite determined to be in charge so I let her think she had the power." Biance. It must be Bia, only she would be that bitter about having the upper hand, she likes the recognition of her talent. "She told me to get help, it was easy enough to pass on her summons to the sheriff and place all fear and blame on Rowan and Wednesday."

"If Rowan was even there."

"What do you mean? We saw him there?" Xavier comments and I desperately fight to come back to consciousness.

"Divina overheard a conversation on her way to class this morning, Wednesday and the Sheriff arguing over the lack of a dead body."

"Brilliant. We're missing a corpse."

"Correction, the authorities are missing a corpse while Wednesday is missing a sister and a corpse."

There's silence for a moment and I get the distinct impression that my friends are frustrated and stressed. When my eyes flutter open I wince back at the light, only to cry out in pain when the movement has my side pulling in pain.

"Shhhh- shhh, you're okay. It's okay." Gentle hands push me back onto the small cot. "Lay back down."

Xavier's form waver's through my blurry vision, he and Bianca quickly settling on either side of me in the art shed.

I'm getting serious deja vu.

"What-"

"You were attacked." Bianca's smooth voice has me calming in seconds and I don't bother to question if she's projecting the emotion intentionally since I'm grateful either way. "We're not sure by what but your sister has been claiming it was some kind of Demogorgon."

"Ro-Rowan was there." I whisper, voice scratchy and I wince at how sore my throat is. I gratefully accept the glass of water Xavier hands me as he helps me sit upright on the bed.

"Again, Wednesday claims he was." Xavier answers this time. "She also claims that he was killed but no body has been recovered."

"Why am I here then?" My vision steadily clears, my thoughts beginning to reorganise themselves as flashbacks of last night's events threaten to overwhelm me once more. The thoughts stop as the two share a look. "What? What is it?"

"Not entirely sure how to say this." Bianca confesses and I pause. "But you're still half dragon."

I freeze.

"Well... it's more like a third dragon, there's no wings or tail." Xavier and Bianca share a nod and handgesture that screams 'we're completely nerding out about this' which is just wonderful considering I'm frozen in shock because what the fuck does that mean?

"Would either of you." I pause, taking a steadying breath. "Care to elaborate?"

My irritation must come off stronger than expected as the two gulp nervous and Xavier runs a hand through his messy hair.

"Your eyes are completely dragon, there's scales around them, a few on the side of your face, some on your neck and your hands appear to have claws." Bia rushes out all in one breath and I look down at my hands in horror to find them longer, scaled and curled at the tip into dark obsidian claws. "Oh, and your ears are a little pointed too."

"Fuck." I whisper and everything drifts into darkness.

Xavier

"Do we have a plan?" I aske Bianca after carefully covering up a passed out Lilith. "The teachers might know what to do. They do have experience in this area."

"And political motivations." She counters with raised brows. "The dragon's rule was overthrown centuries ago. And with Lil's father heading the political campaign for the restoration of their house-"

"She would become a symbol."

"Or a martyr." I stiffen at Bia words, glaring at her suggestion but she meets my gaze and refuses to back down.

"The deaths here, her bio father's campaigns, Gomez's hunt for the eggs, that creature's hunt and Wednesday's ability to find and make enemies left and right." For a second, just a second, I can see the raw terror behind Bianca's perfect mask. "She won't stand a chance. She would be a tool, a weapon. She'd spent her life with a target on her back."

"Doesn't she have that already?" I counter, trying not to get ahead of ourselves.

"Don't fool yourself into naivety, Xav." She snaps before rubbing at her forehead in irritation. "We both know this is only the beginning, too many things are aligning for this not to get bigger and out of control."

"There's still a chance." I whisper, brushing a strand of hair out of her face. "She could still fly under the radar. Still have a life."

"That was never going to be a possibility." Bia whispers, looking at me with such pity. "That's why she and Sebastian were arranged to marry. It was a political move, just like the rest of their lives."

I shakily nod, clearing my throat as I fight back tears of frustration.

"So what do we do?" I state with a strength I don't feel. "We need to keep her safe."

"We keep her here, hidden." Bia begins, pacing around the small shed. "That creature caught her scent and tracked us far into the forest, but it stopped when you joined the hunt."

"As much as I would love too, I can't stay with her 24/7." She waves me off.

"It ran when it felt your power, so we create a shield out of magic and psych charms around this place."

"Like a glamour?" I question, knowing that Divina had a certain affinity for tricks and illusions.

"Partly, it should keep her hidden here until we can work out what else to do." Bianca nods and I can practically see her cunning thoughts slowly building a plan. "I'll head to her room, grab her some things and her mother's coming of age tasks. It'll give her something to do so she doesn't go crazy here."

"What about Wednesday?" I sigh at the thought.

"I'll deal with her, a few suggestions, a few illusions and maybe a few prophetic dreams sent from a certain psych-"

"No! No, Bianca." I snap, rising to my feet to step closer to the Siren. "We're not screwing with her head."

"Have you got a better plan?"
