A Force in Tevat, Part 6

"Is there something troubling you, Traveler?" Jeht asked.

Lumine looked up from her tankard, surprised at her companion's remark. Paimon, who was floating next to her, tilted her head. "No, I... sorry, what were you saying just now?" Lumine asked.

"I was saying we had a hard time fighting the Primal Constructs on the way to the throne. Thankfully, Dehya and her band of eremites came to our rescue."

A few days had passed since Cyno and the others had returned to the desert. On the day they arrived at the gates of the city, Lumine had taken it upon herself to approach Jeht after Alhaitham left. She needed to relay Jebrael's last words so they agreed to meet up at Lambad's Tavern once everything was settled and Lumine was officially discharged from Bimarstan. After passing Tighnari's rigorous tests, he had declared Lumine fully recovered but with a warning to look after herself before anybody else. She had agreed and thanked him for worrying for her.

"If there's something troubling you, you know you can tell me. I'm also your friend..." Jeht said.

Lumine sipped her ale and wondered if Tighnari would be upset that she was drinking as soon as she was out of the hospital. "I just have a lot to think about lately. My supposed death, how I miraculously survived, the calamity in the desert..." The Irminsul resetting everybody's memories again. "But I should be the one comforting you, Jeht. I need to tell you what happened in the Eternal Dreamland," she said gently.

There were only a few people in the Tavern despite being a hotspot during that day of the week. There were no musicians playing on the second floor. Few people littered the tables and Lambad was busy playing TCG after serving the last customer who dropped in. It was apparent the citizens of Sumeru City weren't in a celebratory, drinking mood after the recent events that occurred in the desert.

Lumine related to her friend what happened in the Eternal Dreamland as she remembered it, the fight she witnessed between Samail and Jebrael, how the former fatally wounded the latter, how she joined in the fight and was able to get rid of Samail, Jebrael dying in her arms and his last words.

"He said to tell you that he loved you dearly. And to find the 'Eternal Oasis' for him. I don't know what he meant by that," she said.

Jeht nodded. The brocade wrapped around her eyes became moist and Lumine could tell she was tearing up. "The Eternal Oasis is the Goddess of Flower's resting place." She rubbed her nose and sniffed. "Dad always told me he wanted to enter that place and find mom again... guess I'll have to find it all by myself now..."

The Traveler assumed the other was implying something. She had memorized every possible way people might ask her for favors but she wasn't really up for another adventure in the desert, at least not for now. So she opened her mouth but closed it when the door to the tavern opened. Alhaitham walked in with an unreadable face. She watched him hunt for any available table and chose one at the corner hidden from most people as Lumine had expected. Lambad rose and attended to the Scribe.

"I'm planning to retrieve the remains of my father in the Khaj-Nisut. I'm not going to search the Eternal Oasis for now..." Jeht clarified, pulling Lumine's attention back to her.

"Paimon thinks we should help her find the Eternal Oasis when the time comes. Right, Traveler?" Paimon said.

Lumine tried to focus on Jeht once again. She hadn't seen Alhaitham ever since they met at the gates. The Traveler had been restraining herself from inventing excuses to visit the Acting Grand Sage. Doing this might end up with her breaking her promise to Nahida. But seeing him casually walk in and appear out of nowhere was challenging her resolved again.
