Windblume, Part 8

Lumine fought his grip, clawing through the air, slapping his arms and screaming into his hand like he was going to murder her.

"Calm down, Traveler," Alhaitham spoke to her ear and she froze.

Recognizing the voice behind her, she calmed. The hand on her mouth left her face and the one around her waist loosened but didn't let go. She turned to face him and the scarce light emanating from the full moon and the star-spangled sky was enough to see a pair of sharp teal eyes gazing down on her.

He kept her close to him in a tight embrace as they took in each other's faces. The man wasn't dressed for the occasion and he smelled of Dandelion Wine. Seeing him again, being this close to him after such a long, tiring day made her heart feel at ease. "I thought you wouldn't come..." she spoke first.

"How could I if that Harbinger is hovering all over you, trying to seduce you and steal what's mine."

His gaze hardened and she could tell he was pissed. "Nothing happened," she swore. "All we did was dance and eat, I promise. Paimon saw everything."

"Uh-huh... And you look way too happy doing it, laughing with the Fatui and enjoying his attention. It's to the point where I'm starting to doubt if Lesser Lord Kusanali spoke the truth when she said we were in love..."

She brushed his last statement. "You were watching us?"

"I had to make sure no harm comes to you."

"You could've joined us. I was looking for you this whole time."

"I do not need nor want to subject myself to another pointless form of social interaction. I only needed to see you. That is enough."

"Yet here you are..." she squirmed in his arms. "Grabbing me in the dark like a stalker."

"Do you wish that I let go?"

"...no," she squeaked. Lumine relished staying in his arms. It was warm; it felt like home. She pressed her lips and licked them which rapidly drew his eyes.

His mouth tugged to a small smile. "Then, shall we resume where we left off before we got rudely interrupted yesterday?" His face was already inching closer as he asked. "I will not allow that Harbinger to disrupt the progress of my recovery."

"Huh?" She was going to say yes but his last statement confused her.

He took her mouth without bothering to clear things up. The Scribe could no longer wait to recover more of their memories together. A new one flashed in his mind. They were sitting side by side in the House of Daena with books piled before them. An Inteyvat flower fell from her hair and landed softly on his palm. "I'll keep this one," he said. "Again? How many flowers have you taken from my hair already?" she asked. "You seem to have an endless supply of them, and they make for a nice bookmark." He tucked the flower in between the pages of his Symbols, Runes, and Icons book. He recalled another memory where he was looking fondly at the book his grandmother had given him. The sweet scent of the Inteyvat Flower on his nose reminded him of Lumine and he placed it in between the pages of his most precious book before sliding it back to the shelf with a satisfied smile.

Alhaitham wanted more and their kiss deepened. His tongue slid into her mouth, tasting her, stealing her breath, drowning himself in her addicting scent.

Lumine felt his hunger, the urgency by which he explored her mouth which elicited a groan from her throat.

His hands no longer stayed still. The one guarding her lower back traveled upwards and caressed her smooth shoulder blades while his other hand ruffled the short golden locks brushing between his fingers. It slid down to her ear, to the bare skin of her neck and collar bone. Further down and it rested above her left breast where he felt the pumping of her heart, strong and full of life. The opposite of another memory he saw where he embraced her lifeless body in his arms, her mistaken death that nearly drove him to insanity.
