Tyler gazed at the tracks in the mud, beads of sweat running down his face, as he followed the prints that resembled one of a squirrels. Letting out a sigh of frustration, he stood up and continued to follow the tracks. Subconsciously tightening his hand around the handle of his bow, he saw a bush shake slightly. Tyler pulled back the string on his bow and released an arrow into the bush. Hearing a squeal, he walked up to see a now dead racoon. He grasped the racoon by its tail and shoved it into his backpack. Making his way downstream, he approached the glistening fire that Jed sat next to. Jed skinned a squirrel, making sure the fire remained alive. Tyler walked over and placed the dead racoon next to the fire. Sitting down next to Jed; he asked, "How long until we reach camp"? Jed stood up and placed the squirrel meat in a Styrofoam bowl, while answering Tyler's question, "If we leave after we eat, we should be there in an hour, but we should rest, we've been walking all day". Tyler nodded and gazed at the fire, reflecting on how the past three days have been. He glanced at Jed, who was laying down on his sleeping cot about to fall asleep. Tyler rolled his eyes, muttering to himself, "Guess I'm keeping watch".
The next morning, Tyler awoke to the sound of load screeching, making him get up quickly and grab his bow. He had fallen asleep sometime during the night do to the fact that he had three days without rest and the peaceful sounds of nature made him nod off. He turned to the right to see a rather large pack of Lurkers approaching at a fast pace. Tyler looked to see if Jed was awake and saw otherwise. Tyler slammed his foot into Jeds ribs, causing him to wake up. Getting up, Jed threw a harsh glare and started to bitch at Tyler, "What the fuck.", his bitching was cut short when he saw the pack of Lurkers. Jed hollered towards Tyler who was looking for his bag, "Forget our shit, we need to go now" Tyler left his bow and bag behind, running alongside Jed away from the large horde that overcame their camp. Emerging from outside the woods, Jed looked back to see if the squad of Lurkers were following suit. They weren't and he looked at Tyler to make sure he was okay,
"Kid, how ya holdin' off there?"
"Well better than you old man." Tyler responded back with a slightly amused tone.
"Watch it kid, I may be old, but I can still whoop your ass back to that horde." As he said that, Tyler scoffed, and the duo continued their journey.
After 30 minutes of walking, the two finally stopped on top of a large hill; which lead towards a large steel gated community. Tyler looked at Jed, who nodded, before they approached the large steel gate. The sight made Tyler raise an eyebrow but decided to trust the man that saved him from getting his face chewed off. Jed continued to walk, speaking to him silently that Tyler was barely able to hear, "Second base". The remark made Tyler slightly cautious and decided to store the comment in the back of his mind for later. Jed waved his hand, the gate opening. A man approached them from inside, followed by two guards with AK47's. The man was dressed in cargo shorts, a white tank top, and dark shaggy hair. Jed spoke in a quiet tone "We have a newbie." The mysterious man looked at Tyler, before raising his colt python, and pulling the trigger.
