Eight years later
Dontai rolled his eyes as the young woman across from him continued to babble on about...well, whatever she was babbling about. Dontai had met the woman a few hours ago at the mall while he was buying himself a new Xbox controller. She was leaving a Sephora when they literally bumped into each other. To apologize (for nothing really) she asked him if he wanted to head to the food court to grab something to eat.
Why the fuck did I have to help her up? He thought to himself as she continued to run her mouth. This bitch is annoying...and I just wanna go home, I could be streaming right now, but instead I'm here wi-
"Do you agree?" She asked, snapping him out of his thoughts. She had a huge smile on her face which made Dontai feel a little guilty for ignoring her.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch that last part, could you say it again?" He asked. She smiled.
"Of course! I was just asking if you like my hair because I'm not really a fan of it, but then I said I think I'd look better with locs, don't you think so?" Dontai smiled, now she was talking. Dontai was obsessed with beautiful women, not to the point where he was a stalker, but just enough to make it awkward. But above all else, natural beauty is what drove him crazy, he didn't think her box braids were bad, but the thought of her rocking her natural hair in locs made his heart flutter just a bit.
"Honestly no, I don't like your hair in particular, but I do think you'd look amazing with some locs, I know people that can do them if you ever need the hookup." She smiled widely.
"Oh really? Thanks! I haven't done faux locs in forever, I'd love to try it again." The smile on Dontai's face disappeared.
I thought this bitch meant LOCS not that fake shit.
"Oh umm...I was talking about real locs...like actual locs." Her face balled up in confusion.
"You mean dreads?" She asked. Dontai groaned and facepalmed himself.
"Noooo, don't say dreads, say locs, dreads make them sound bad, and there is nothing dreadful about locs." She nodded slowly and then burst into laughter.
"I'm sorry, but that was kind of corny...but also cute, if you really do think I'd look nice with locs then I will consider it." As she spoke, Dontai rolled his eyes at the corny remark, but he couldn't help but smile when she said locs instead of dreads.
"Okay just let me know...hey actually, I feel bad, we came to the food court together and sparked conversation...and I still don't know your name." He smiled politely and she returned the smile.
"It's not an issue...Kaylah...with an ah at the end, and what do I call you?" Dontai nodded, her name was pretty.
"Kaylah...Kaylah, I like the way that sounds, it's a pretty name, my name is Dontai...with an ai at the end." Kaylah giggled and pulled out her phone. She swiped on her screen a few times then handed it to Dontai. It was in the contacts app.
"Give me your number," she said. Dontai pretended to be a little suspicious.
"Hmmmm, should I?" He took her phone and started typing his number in, "yeah fuck it why not, you seem like a good woman, how old are you by the way? If you don't mind me asking."
She gasped."Now I know damn well your mama told you not to EVER ask a woman her age," she giggled, "but I'm 26, and you?" He smiled softly.
"Yeah my mama told me that, but I'm just a curious person, and I'm 25, my birthday is in a few days though." She gasped.
"Wait, for real? Oh my god you should come to my friends birthday party, are you a drinker? A smoker? Plenty of that will be there, a lot of ass shaking too, but don't look at mine! I'm a classy lady." They both shared a laugh and Dontai shrugged.
