The ticking of the clock was only overshadowed by the loud chiming of the bells. Zela sighed heavily as she counted each beat. It was 11 o'clock at night. The third night that she had watched over the princess. The third night when everyone was waiting for news from the king.

He and his men were searching for Wyatt. They hoped that if they found him and brought him down, the curse would be lifted and Y/N would awaken again. Zela, however, doubted that it would work, and they were running out of time.

Already the princess was so weak that a heartbeat could hardly be detected. It was probably only a matter of hours or even minutes before the curse wiped her from this earth.

Meanwhile, Roman was pacing back and forth in the forest, desperately trying to suppress the feeling of powerlessness and pain he was still receiving from Y/N. It was time to act. No matter how much Dean and the others objected. Roman knew he had to see her. He had the urge to see her and somehow help her before it was too late. The vibes he felt from her were weakening, but the pain, the agony she was enduring was not.

Slowly but surely it felt to Roman like it was actually his pain. Not just an echo.

"This is not a good idea. This is not going to end well. I hope you realize that, Your Highness." said Dean as he sat on a rock while watching Roman pace back and forth.

"All I ask of you is to stir up a little commotion. I don't want you to start a fight. I just need the opportunity to find her. If I'm close enough I can sense her location." replied Roman impatiently.

"I don't stand a chance of changing your mind, do I?" sighed Dean in surrender.

"Not in the least. Go tell the others it's time. I'm sure they're impatient already." he said as he peeked a little between the trees to see the castle.

"I'll come to you princess." he muttered under his breath.

It didn't take long for the men to reach the castle. Roman nodded to Dean. That was the sign that it was time to put the plan into action. Hopefully everything would work out as Roman had imagined.

It was quiet in the princess's room, only Zela's soft breathing could be heard. But suddenly there was a loud bang. This was followed by shouting from the guards. With quick steps Zela hurried out to see what was going on. Was it possible that the king had returned?

Roman also heard that the distraction maneuver was in progress. As quickly and yet as cautiously as he could, he climbed up the wall where he felt the immense energy of Y/N. She was close by. She was very close. And as if it was meant to be, the wall was easy to climb. Roman gasped slightly in exertion as he swung his powerful legs over the parapet of the balcony. Cautiously he peered through the window.

There she was. Or there was her shell. Roman's breath caught as his eyes fell on the princess. Y/N was transparent now. Almost like a ghost. Immediately he realized what was causing her inner agony. Without any doubt it was a curse that put her in this state more dead than alive. Now he knew why she was so weak. Y/N was barely alive.

His eyes looked around the rest of the room. And to his satisfaction he noticed that she was alone. Roman tried to open the window. Fortunately, it opened easily, without squeaking or creaking.

He climbed in and looked around again. The door was open. Probably her guard or keeper had gone to see what was causing the noise that still echoed through the castle.

Roman stepped to the side of the beautiful princess. If she had not been transparent and Roman could not feel her pain, one would have thought she was asleep. She looked so peaceful.

After some hesitation, Roman pulled the empty chair closer to the bed. He sat down, but did not take his eyes off Y/N. As at their first meeting, the pull was immediately present again.

Gently he put his hand on hers. Shocked, he realized how cold she was. Like ice. As if no more blood was flowing in her veins but water from the glacier. What was this cruel curse? Why hadn't it been enough just to rob her of her powers?

"I'm sorry for what happened to you, Princess..." whispered Roman as he leaned close to her.

What he wouldn't have given to see her beautiful eyes or hear her angelic voice.... The bell began to chime. It was midnight.

Without thinking, he raised a hand and stroked her ice-like cheek. Slowly his fingertips slid to her full lips. There it was again... that pull. Unable to resist, he leaned forward. Gently he touched her lips. Like he was stroking them with a feather.

And that was the moment it happened! She began to glow. Hot rays seemed to be radiating from her. It was like Y/N was suddenly the sun.

Roman stumbled back, startled. The chair fell to the floor with a loud bang. But he hardly noticed. The only thing he noticed was how Y/N was now herself again. She was back to her true form. Nothing of the transparency had remained.

And then, oh wonder, she opened her eyes.

"Y/N?" asked Roman quietly after the shock subsided. He slowly stepped back to her side.

He took her hand in his and then she looked at him. Her look was clear. Almost as if the last days had not happened. And immediately the princess recognized the man standing next to her. A smile appeared on her face. Slowly she sat up before lifting her free hand and placing it against Roman's cheek.

"You saved me... You awakened me... How? How did you do that?" she asked softly while looking at him without a pause.

"He did it through the forbidden. He is the enemy, princess. That's why he was able to lift the curse. Through the forbidden kiss." Zela said suddenly as she stood transfixed in the doorway and saw what had just happened.

"You're...? But..." replied Y/N, confused.

"I'm not like my father, Y/N. I'm not the enemy. I'll explain everything when I get the next opportunity." said Roman quickly.

He pressed a kiss to the princess' forehead before quickly disappearing the same way he had come in.

"That was the prince?" asked Y/N, confused.

"Yes, Your Highness. And you must never see him again." replied Zela as she first closed the window and then looked closely at Y/N.

She wanted to make sure that she was really and truly well. Although she was grateful to the prince for what he had done, she was nevertheless very afraid that it could possibly mean the beginning of the end.
