Chapter Six

"Julius?" Ròg called out, breaking free of the vampires restraining him. "No, no, what have you done?" He shook his head.

Then shakily, he called again, his voice a silent prayer. "Julius answer me right now!"

Silence. Pain rendering silence. Somehow that said everything. He didn't wait another second, with nothing left to fight for, the man made a break for it.

Like a possessed cat, Ròg climbed the wall. The minute he was on the roof of the adjoining building, the treacherous vampires fled the alley.

Eden couldn't believe what she had witnessed much less the fact they came out alive. Jumping over ashes and dodging pools of blood, she started over to Specter but the closer she got the more her steps begun to falter. He was gaping at where Julian's ashes laid, like it was the greatest tragedy he'd ever seen. She slowed to a stop next to him but the man didn't even spare a glance.

Eden's eyes narrowed as she looked back and forth between him and the ashes.

"Is something wrong?" She asked.

Specter didn't answer. Barely blinked. She didn't scare easily but the look on his face was enough to make the hairs stand up on her arm. She'd never seen him so ruffled, not even when they were at the brink of death did he wear the expression of despair. They survived, they won, but why did he look so defeated? Why would a vampire's death affect him? Nothing made sense.

Eden's brows shot up when Specter finally parted his lips to say something. But the words were inaudible. Like a silent chant, he repeated it again as if it would summon some form of understanding.

Then finally he met her eyes... "Julius!" he voiced, the name rolling off his tongue like a warning.

"Brother of The Sylver Demon." Hans stepped in.

Eden's thoughts begun to race. She'd heard that name before but she couldn't put her finger on where. Specter and the other heads liked to keep them in the dark. They spoke about grave matters in hushed whispers, how would she know.

"Perhaps it's a coincidence, there are others with that name," Specter begun.

Hans shook his head. "Another vampire with that name that fights like a pure blood? I doubt it. It's him Specter, it's him."

A blanket of silence fell over them. So heavy and suffocating it sent shivers down Eden's spine.

Suffering an unwelcome lump in her throat, she swallowed hard. "Father—"

"What have you done my child?" He looked at her, the hint of accusation unmissable.

"He was going to kill us—"

"It was all under control! But now you have killed us all," Hans cut her off. "You have no idea what you have done."

"Then help me understand!" She cried.
