Looking out onto the desert expanse of Kås, I couldn't help but wonder what my Queen's true intentions were for sending us to the planet. High above in the ship steered by its own citizens, Kås brings nothing but the beige tan that reminds me of a dry throat caused by dust and storms the color of the planet.

"Descending to Kås, please stand by." The captain of the ship, Yine, bears a grim expression as he looks to his home. All of the captains of Myōkh are from Kås, that is the only way the ships could make the journey from planet to planet.

The passengers aboard start to move. The members of our small team form a line along the edge of the railing, using the straps to tie themselves to the wood of the boat-like structure. One of the things I could never understand was why the landing method of the ships has not changed since the creation of our transportation.

I look at Yine as he uses his talent to shift the air around him. I cannot imagine the type of strain it takes to control and fly a ship of this size, all the while not breaking a sweat.

Astor leans down to my ear, bending his large frame to get on my level. "Why are we coming to Kås again?" The sleep has just barely left his eyes. Seeing that makes me soften a little, I did feel bad about having to wake him up in our rush to leave, but the Queen herself said that this was time sensitive.

"A Sharaian was found stowing away on a capital ship, crew reported he was injured badly and was losing blood. Her Majesty requested we move as quickly," I lowered my voice. "And as discreetly, as possible."

Astor nodded and straightened, looking at Nyla, a new addition to our team. "Is that why the doctor is tagging along?"

I couldn't help but roll my eyes at him. He was the largest one out of all of us physically, but the smallest when it came to respect.

"Nyla is an official member now, so if I see you not treating her like one, I'll kick you all the way to Shara and tell Her Majesty that you've gone missing."

Astor narrowed his eyes on her. I turned to make sure that she wasn't a witness to him. Luckily she was staring at the ship. I vaguely remember her mentioning that she has never left the capitol ever since her parents left their home planet when she was little.

"I just don't understand why Queen Corsia let a mage join Etorus. Isn't there a rule about that or something?" Then, remembering who he's talking to, looks back at me. "Except for you, of course.

I scoff at his behavior. "Of course. You mean the law that doesn't allow mages from the inner planets to join groups higher than the guard? Well, last I checked Domhnall is an outer planet."

I stopped the conversation there, not willing to risk any separation from the group. Etorus relies on complete trust from all five of us, and any conflict from within could shatter any semblance of unity we have.

Etorus is the highest level of military in Myokh, serving directly under The Queen herself. We are as select as they come, and are one of the best kept secrets of the royal family. Not even others in the military know of our existence, which means that everything that we do has to be under the cover of the capitol.
