It was 5 in the morning when I heard a cacophony of my phone's alarm. That is when I started regretting my decision to choose a 24 km away from my house school to do my third School Based Experience (SBE). But I guess, life must go on and one could not move forward without any challenges in life. I got up wishing with all my heart that the school is going to be fun as when I was doing my second SBE.
It was very dark and I could not see anyone in my housing area outside of their house so I took a look at my watch, it was only 6.30 A.M. Not long after, a friend who is going to do his SBE at the same school picked me up in his silver Proton Persona. I was still excited since it was my first day, not until I realized the roads were piled up with traffic lights. Luckily, we managed to arrive at the school, Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru (SEBARU) at 7.10 A.M.
Soon as we arrived at the school, we went to the office for a self-report but as it was the last week of the school session, most of the teachers were not around including the headmistress so we met the senior Assistant instead and talked about the tasks we have to complete during our SBE. We were placed in a meeting room in the office for the whole week.
The first day was normal, we got to observe the surroundings of the school and met a lot of teachers and students there. As far as I can recall, SEBARU was the biggest school among the three schools I attended for my SBE. Also, we get to know the teachers who we can seek help from to complete our SBE tasks. What I like the most about this school is the school canteen, especially the teacher's section. It was impeccable and looked like an aesthetic cafe. Kudos to the canteen tender.
On the second day, we finally got to know the headmistress of SEBARU, Mrs. Zakiah and I met the teacher that I would like to interview for the EDUP3073 Culture and Learning task, that is Mr. Luhen. He is an Indian teacher who has been teaching there for 12 years and has vast knowledge regarding the interview questions. So, I made an appointment to do an interview recording on Wednesday with my other two SBE friends.
On the third day, me and my other two friends did the interview with Mr. Luhen and it went smoothly. I asked him to do me a favor by taking one of his classes on the next day to do an assessment with the pupils of year 4. He gladly accepts the favor as he has finished going through the syllabus with the pupils before their Final Academic Session Exam (UASA).
On the second last day, I did the assessment with the year 4 pupils. From my observation, I bet it is going to be hard during my practicum, considering the pupils' English level proficiency and how hard it is to manage their behaviors in the classroom when I am not speaking in the language they understand. However, the SBE novice teachers were invited to liven up the year-end ceremony of year 6 in the evening on the same day. It was so fun and there was so much food that it filled my tummy to the fullest.
On Friday, once again the school celebrated the last day of year 6 pupils in the morning as well as the SBE novice teachers. We got our certificates that morning and I love the cheers from the pupils. The last day was short and even though I was looking forward to that day, I was kind of sad to leave the school as usual since I got to meet friendly people and the environment there was very nice.
