I had just been wandering in the halls when I happened upon Alice, which had come as a surprise for me, who thought she was dead, but y’know things change, life moves on, people come back to life, but it’s okay! It’s not like they told me that they killed her or anything. Pshhc! It’s cool! Why and how did Borden know about her being here? I’m so confused and I know that I was supposed to be answering Alice’s questions, but I had way too many unanswered ones myself.
“Do you understand what’s going on?” I asked Thad as we sat on my bed in my dorm, everybody, well except Alice, had at least two other roommates in their dorm with them, but mine were in class right now. Which if I had gone would be potions, but I had skipped to hang out with Thad, and explain everything that was on my mind recently, including Alice’s situation.
“I’m not sure..” he spoke with general concern. I always liked listening to his advice because of this, he always had an answer even if he couldn’t relate. “..but I do think we should find out why or what’s going on.” he finished, with a concentrated expression on his face, his eyebrows were scrunched up and he was now sitting up in the bed, compared to me who was laying my head on the silk pillows the school supplied us with.
“I think…that this is the best course of action, but I don’t believe we should just jump right into action.” Noe said he had been sitting on the floor for the moments that we’d been in here. I nodded, I enjoyed having the others' input on the situation, especially since I’m not the most reliable with information.
“Yeah, I definitely agree. But… we need to figure things out so we can’t take five years to find out a smidge of helpful info.” I said and Noe was now the one nodding, I was glad, mostly that my idea of finding clues hadn’t been shut down, but also because I now had a reason to explore the school. Before, Effie (My new nickname for Effrain, though he doesn’t much like it) had told me that it was forbidden to roam the halls but what was I supposed to do? The Minister had canceled all of our classes for a week and I didn’t truly start them till tomorrow anyways. So nowI had a reason to be everywhere, even if the reason was against The Minister’s beliefs. “And now onto the more pressing issue,” I started in a mock version of a posh accent, it earned a laugh from Thad, but he quickly muffled it because of the seriousness of the situation at hand. “What’s going to happen to Alice and do they know she’s awake yet, because her captator- whoever they are obviously knew where her body was and they had to have checked up on her at times… so when’s the next time going to be?” I finished, I had said it all very quickly but I was not out of breath, almost like the words were bursting out and it didn’t affect me, just my brain which seemed to be moving one hundred miles per second, swarming with unanswered questions and problems waiting to be solved.
“I’m not sure, but I do know that if they knew she was awake they would have made a big announcement, acting like heroes or something, it is just what they are like.” Thad said as he sat down next to Noe on the ground, I noticed that he had been uncomfortable on the bed, which makes sense, seeing as how the bed wasn’t made (Thad was not very picky or a clean freak but he always kept his bed clean and made, a trait he had gotten from his mother, who had sadly passed away [with Thad’s father as well] from an incident a few years back, which had caused Thad to grow up faster than others, Alice always told me this was the reason that he was so wise, because he never had time to be young.)
“Yeah, but what if Borden told them already and they are just choosing to ignore it, I mean Borden has been like a teacher's pet to The Minister recently, who’s to say that he hasn’t already told them that she’s awake and she’s seen you?” Noe questioned and I considered this but it seemed unlikely, from what Alice told me Borden was in a rush to get out, and he almost seemed like he didn’t want Alice to follow him, almost like he wanted her to stay back, stay away from The Minister. He wouldn’t do that if he wanted to tell on her like a child on a playground, he did it to protect her, well atleast I think he did, I’m a people pleaser but I can’t really say I’m a people reader.
