Kaiyo spent days, weeks even, texting Aoyama. She'd get left on read and that led to her knocking on his door. His mother would sometimes answer only to say he wasn't there. It was clear that he was ignoring her, and that devastated her. They had been friends since well almost forever. It was a bit lonely without the cheerful blonde and she had to keep herself busy with working at the bakery.
Then the time of schooling began. Kaiyo stood in her room, tugging her hair into a ponytail. She admired herself in the mirror, her cheeks turning a deeper shade of pink. "This skirt is so short." She muttered, trying to tug it further down.
"Kaiyo, you'll be late if you don't hurry up!" Shiori had called from the living room.
She couldn't help but sigh, grabbing her bag from her chair. "I'll see if there's forms for skirt length." Kaiyo began to head out. She hugged her mother goodbye, slipping her shoes on.
"Hon, before you leave."
Kaiyo looked up to see her mother in tears. "Mom.." She mumbled, already feeling herself begin to tear up. "You know I cry when you do."
"I'm just so proud of you, sweetie." Shiori sniffled, wiping her eyes. "You've grown so much. I keep thinking you're the same little girl I raised, but you aren't. You're so different now." She couldn't help but place a hand on her daughter's cheek.
She felt the tears fall. Even the tiny droplets caused her cheeks to harden. "I have to get to school." Kaiyo hugged her mother, "I love you."
"I love you too sweetie. Go knock them dead, okay?" Shiori patted her back and took a moment to adjust herself. "You'll be amazing."
"Thank you." She wiped her face clean of tears. "I have to actually go now, I'll stop by the bakery after school, okay?"
"Okay. I love you." She called after her daughter as the door closed behind them.
The walk there was a bit odd. Kaiyo had been excited to start at UA. The journey to become a hero was one that was going to be difficult, everyone knew that. It led to a bit of imposter syndrome. It felt completely unreal.
By the time she took a seat, she had finally processed where she was. Kaiyo had taken a look around the class and noticed a lot of different types of people. Her imagination had begun to wander slightly. Their quirks had to be really cool to get into UA, right?
"Hey!" A preppy voice snapped her out of her trance. "Look, we're both pink! Like, completely!"
Kaiyo looked up at the girl, and she was right. Their skin was around the same shade of pink. Meanwhile the girl's hair was a lighter shade. "I've never met someone who's all pink too!" A smile grew on her face. "I'm Kaiyo Aiuchi."
"I'm Mina Ashido!" Mina giggled, shaking Kaiyo's hand. "What's your quirk like?"
"Mine? Oh, I can stretch my body like gum. I mean, I am gum. I can also stick to things!" Kaiyo explained, placing her hand onto an eraser. When her hand lifted, so did the eraser.
Mina seemed to hop excitedly, "That's so cool! I can produce acid." She poked slightly at the eraser until it fell. "We should totally be friends."
"Haha, yeah I'd like that!" Kaiyo looked past Mina and noticed Aoyama who had taken a seat ahead of her. She clenched her fist for a moment.
She seemed to notice, taking a look at him and back at Kai. "Do you know him?"
Kaiyo glanced back at Mina with a not so convincing smile. "No, I don't. He looked familiar that's all." The butterflies in her stomach had been absent for a while, but had made a come back.
