There are some families that really love sports and others that are passionate about the theater. There are families that have little in common leaving them constantly going in different directions. And then, there was the Glass family that was completely united in their obsession to find Atlantis.
Henry Glass was a criminal defense attorney in LA, which meant that they could afford to chase their dream. In 1995, they went went scuba diving in the Mediterranean. In '98, one of Henry's clients arranged for them to go beneath the Great Pyramid in Giza in search of the Atlantis Text. They searched together. They researched together. Atlantis was the Glass family quest.
Henry and Annabelle had one child, Beatrice. She was determined to complete the family quest, which led to studying Anthropology at NYU. It was in the Big Apple that she met Edward, who took their search to a deeper level. A friend had begged Beatrice to try speed dating. Back in her college days, it was trending in New York City. She wore a simple black dress, so did half the women in the room. She still stood out with her tall brown boots and legs as long as the Empire State Building. Bea wasn't taking the event at all seriously until she sat down at Edward's table. This man was handsome and fit with brown skin and a black high and tight. When she walked to his table, he stood up to pull out her chair, his brown eyes caught her gaze, causing her to blush.
"Goodness gracious, I think you just took my breath away," Edward said, staring straight into her green eyes.
"Oh, really?"
"I know what you're thinking- but that's the first time I ever said that to a woman and to a city girl, at that."
"I'm from LA, living in the Big Apple, I suppose it doesn't get any more city than that."
"That's why I almost didn't come, but I'm glad I did."
"Why don't you like city girls?"
"They all know their pretty. I like a woman that doesn't act like she's beautiful."
"I'll keep that in mind. The clock's ticking, how 'bout some real talk."
"Let's do this, Beautiful- what is your wildest dream?"
"That's easy, to find Atlantis." She was shocked to hear herself admit it to a stranger and was alarmed to see a startled look on his face.
"Did someone put you up to this?" he asked, looking about the room.
"No, and why would you say that?" she said.
Edward reached out and put his hand on hers and said, "I'm sorry, ma'am. I'm used to the guys playing pranks on me and they all know that's why I became a Navy Seal. I needed to know how to dive to search for the Big A."
That explained the muscles. "My Dad made family vacations look more like expeditions, it's why I am studying anthropology."
"I've been dreaming about it ever since Mr. Griffin introduced us to Plato in seventh grade. So, you've actually searched for it?"
For five short minutes, the two discussed theories and failed attempts. They were both astonished by this shared interest, but the bell rang and they were forced to switch tables. They spent the rest of the evening trying to get back to each other, but it was not to be. Beatrice decided to slip the handsome stranger her phone number, but he suddenly checked his pager and bolted out the door.
The next morning Beatrice did not want to get out of bed. She found herself lying in, dreaming of the man that fit so perfectly with her dreams. She never had imagined meeting anyone like Edward, but it clearly wasn't meant to be, and so she dragged herself out of bed to get ready for class. Bea threw on a cotton dress with little purple flowers and brown leather sandals. Large copper curls hung over her shoulders, and she put on a purple headband. It was definitely a morning for coffee. She walked into her favorite brew spot and was shocked to see Edward sitting at a table. She stood there, staring at him until he lifted his head and matched her gaze. He bolted out of his seat so fast he knocked his chair to the floor. She couldn't stop smiling. They were married three months later.
Edward grew up in the foster system, determined to get out from under the hold of the government. That almost kept him from joining the Navy, but with no family he didn't really have a lot of options. He was smart enough to know that four years in the Navy was better than accumulating a ton of student debt. When he learned about the elite group of sailors, he set out to become a Navy Seal. Most of the time he was too focused on his career to remember that he was alone in the world.
That all changed with Bea. Henry and Annabelle, whom they called Annie, immediately accepted their new son-in-law, and they all began to save and prepare for their own grand expedition. The plans came to a halt when Bea's mother got cancer. On her deathbed, Annie made Henry promise to make the quest with Edward and Beatrice.
Henry purchased a sailing ship for the venture, a 40ft catamaran. This family cruiser allowed Edward and Bea to have their own area with a separate guest room, and the opposite hull was all Henry's, giving him his own office for crypto trading. Edward and Henry admired the cockpit that looked out to the sea, and Bea liked the large portholes and the saloon in the back of the boat, which was like a second living room, but out in the open air and near the cockpit. It was a tiny home on the sea, but with lots of deck space to spread out and find some privacy. The family of three got a bottle of champagne and christened her the Annabelle.
