Y/N absentmindedly drummed his fingers along his desk, half-paying attention to the lesson. This was a surprise to everyone in the class, considering half the time he wasn't even there, much less paying attention. His mind was occupied at the moment.

"Fuck. I'm in over my head aren't I? Why did I think that I--a complete fucking moron--would be able to help someone who's batshit crazy!?"

If you couldn't tell, he started reading through the binder that he earned, but boy did he regret it.

"Figures she took after her mother. God, I'm so dead!"

Bang!

Everyone jumped as he suddenly slammed his head into his desk. Y/N lifted his head before massaging it with both hands. "Alright, let's go through this once more. Maria Matsugane was prime suspect in a string of murder cases 15 years ago. Each victim was known for having a crush on the school's track star--and Maria's current husband--Rikiya Dojima. Police had little to no evidence, the only link between Maria and the case was a slight mistake during the first murder, placing her at the crime scene, but she still got off on a lack of evidence."

Y/N sat back in his seat with his eyes closed. "Apparently, she was also in kahoots with the Yakuza, as one of the victims was abducted and ransomed back to their family."

He thought for a moment. "The family moved pretty soon after...If I were a deranged psychopath..." realization hit. Hibiki's parents have been on a 'business trip'.

Y/N quickly rose from his seat and headed for the door.

"A-ah. L/N-san-"

"I'm leaving." Y/N ignored the teacher and made his way out of class.

Y/N wasn't exactly sure what compelled him to try this, but if his gut was right...

Well, he really hoped his gut was wrong.

//Sapporo//

A woman in her thirties was sitting in her living room, writing in a journal.

Ring! Ring!

Reaching over to her cellphone, she saw the number was blocked. Against her better judgement she answered. "Hello?"

"You need to hide!" Y/N's urgent voice spoke.

"Uhm, how did you get this number?"

"No time, just hide! And stay completely quiet."

The woman was confused but listened nonetheless. "Does the closet work?"

"That's so fucking obvious! Hide somewhere else!"

"Rude." The woman thought to herself before crouching down and crawling into a kitchen cabinet. "Now, can you tell me-"

Knock knock

The woman froze at the knock at her door.

"Put your phone on silent!"

Y/N's advice was quickly taken as another set of knocks made her jump. She covered her mouth and took silent breaths.

Click! Creeeeaaaak!

The sound of her door slowly opening made her shrink, and she silently thanked the man who warned her.

Tap! Tap! Tap!

The sound of the intruders shoes echoed throughout the apartment. The steps stopped as the intruder looked around the room. "I know you haven't left. I've been watching your apartment for the last hour." A female voice made the woman freeze.

"M-Maria!?"

"You know why I'm here, don't you, Saki-san?" Maria spoke as she made her way into the living room, picking up the journal. "I can't let you squeal."

Seemingly deducing where she would go in her small apartment, Maria slowly walked into the kitchen, each step filling Saki with terror.

"You know too much to be left alive..." She stopped infront of the cabinet before crouching down. "...Found you~" Maria's voice went kawaii mode.

POW!

Silence filled the room. Maria clicked her teeth and closed the empty cabinet. "Is she really not here? I mean, I guess I never saw her come inside, so she might've left beforehand...and it's not like I made it obvious I was after her."

After some ruminating Maria angrily stomped her foot. "Damn it! And I was gonna kill her so hard she would squeal like a pig!" She shouted childishly.

Saki overheard footsteps walking over to the door, before hearing it slam. She was about to release a sigh when...

"Don't move yet." She heard from the phone that was still pressed against her ear.

She listened, and stayed inside that cramped cabinet for 15 minutes without question. Just as she was about to get fed up.

"Seriously!?" Maria shouted, apparently still in the apartment. "Guess she really isn't here. Mou~" she pouted before leaving for good.

"Alright, cops are on their way. You do not leave until they get there."

Saki was speechless as Y/N hung up the phone.

Y/N sighed as he let himself lay back onto the tile flooring.

"You owe me for this y'know." The Lady of The Night looked over at him, a video feed of Saki's apartment on the big monitor.

"Can you just shut up and let me be relieved for a sec?"

"Sure, go ahead. Lay on my dirty floor. Can't remember the last time I swept in here." The Lady shrugged before looking back at the monitor. "Still don't understand why you did that. It didn't involve you."

"Does it matter?" Y/N asked from the floor.

"Depending on your answer you might get a discount."

"Whoopdefuckendoo." Y/N groaned. "I don't fucking know man. I just moved before I could fully think it through."

"Tch, too bad she was wearing a mask. This wouldn't hold up in court." The Lady commented while rewatching the feed.

"A Japanese court though?"

"By that, I mean it wouldn't be enough for a retrial. Most she'd get is a few months for breaking and entering."

Y/N sat up and rose an eyebrow. "Somebody has a grudge. Not that I blame you."

"Would you look at that? The moron can figure out that my father was murdered. A pleasant surprise."

Y/N finally got to his feet. "Alright, how much do I owe you?"

The Lady stared at the screen, silently contemplating something. "You saved a life, at the detriment to a woman I hate. I'd say that's adequate compensation."

"...You sure?"

"Go before I change my mind."

Y/N nodded before turning around and leaving. The Lady watched his reflection in the monitor.

"Don't get yourself killed."

////

Really quick chap, but I wanted to update.

So, establishing Hibiki's mom as a character. She's deranged and childish.

Also some small characterization for The Lady and Y/N.
