Deciding to change the future wasn't a sporadic decision.

No, it took Val a whole year after seeing Tadashi to start planning her influence in the world. Studying at SFIT was a choice she would've made no matter the situation: With how her world had changed, it made sense she had to change too, and SFIT was her best shot at keeping afloat in this new reality.

But changing the movie? The show? She had no reason to.

Sure, Tadashi's death was heartbreaking, and the show had its own batch of misfortunes, but at the end, everything turned out fine in both. Even more, it was Tadashi's death what kickstarted the events of the movie, or at least the creation of Big Hero Six, so messing with that would led to unstoppable destruction from the villains' side.

 So why change it?

She kept that resolution until one day, in kinder, her parents came late to pick her up. It had been five years since she died, and though she learned to ignore her past life and all she left behind, some days her emotions got to her.

That was one of those days.

Being a kid at the time, crying for no reason was kind of expected, so Val let herself cry it out until her emotions were manageable-ish again. Her parents not coming at the arranged pick up time didn't mean anything to her other than more time to compose herself. But apparently she wasn't the only one overwhelmed that day.

Tadashi came in late, too. And Hiro started bawling.

Now, Val doesn't know what gave him the idea, but when his brother didn't come for him Hiro thought he fucking died, and sat in a corner wailing until Tadashi finally appeared.

Now this alone shouldn't have made Val have a breakdown, but she had already had one earlier that day that left her emotionally unstable, and at the moment something deep within her shook.

...did her sister react the same way when she died?

Just the thought of her, all childish glee and soft features, breaking down at the news of her death was enough to shut her off. Then next thing she knew, she was in her home, crying, lying in bed with her new parents pressed tightly against her in a hug. It was then that the thought occurred to her. What changed her resolution to do nothing.

'Tadashi is to Hiro what I was to her.'

He was a pillar, a safe presence he could rely on, a loved one who Hiro did love, he must have loved him so much and cried so hard when he died exactly like her sister who loved her trusted her cared for her how is her how did it affect her how did she react when she died how-

 ...Val can't let that happen.

Not again. Not when she knows how much it hurts.

 But the problem is...how?

How does she change the future? How does she stop Tadashi's death? How is her existence going to affect the timeline?

What will happen if she does something wrong?

Val can't risk the future. She needs to think.

 And so she does.

She thinks and thinks and thinks, all day, all week, all month, all year, every year until she graduates high school. She uses all her free time studying mechanics and engineering and every other scientific field that catches her attention, that could give her more chances of getting things right. She makes thousands of plans and inventions, going over them millions of times until all are perfect ways to reach her goal.

Except she doesn't have a goal.

It took her seven years, planning and inventing and thinking of how to be a hero, to realize she didn't have a goal.

Sure, saving Tadashi is one. Her main goal.

But what will she do after that?

Sure, help the heroes in case the show does happen. And she guesses that wanting to help people just for the sake of helping isn't really a bad thing. But.

It feels...bad in a way. That there's these amazing people out there, with ideals and passions and things they're devoted to, and she's just here. Wanting to be a hero just for the hell of it, for the thrill. Because that's why she'll keep going after the fire, for the thrill she knows she'll get being a hero. An idol. But it feels as if she's disrespecting them, all the people that really care.

Tadashi's goal was to help people. Simple and to the point. Very similar to what she wants to do, but so different in reasons and solutions. He built Baymax so people could have access to free medical care, and she's gonna go around beating people to a pulp. Hiro's goal was to honor his brother, if Val remembers correctly. He did that by protecting the people of San Fransokyo, seeing as his brother's wish was to help people. She doesn't know the crew's goals, but she guesses it was the same as Hiro's: Honor Tadashi.

But her? What would be her goal, stopping unfairness? That's what Tadashi's death was, unfair. Is that what she'll settle to do for the next few years? Stopping unfairness, as wide as it is? No, she needs a more concrete goal. Her life will be molded around her hero persona one way or another, whether that be trauma or association, so she needed to make sure she set herself a true goal she was passionate about, or at the very least was interested in reaching. "Stopping unfairness" wouldn't cut it.

 She needs to think more.

At the end, she can't think of anything else.

Life's unfair, and that's a fact. But there are so many situations that could improve, so many disasters that could be stopped if there just was something, someone, there to prevent them.

 Her death, by example.

It was avoidable. All it would've took was some streetlights.

 ...

...it wasn't exactly a goal. More like a concept, really, but it would have to be enough.

She can always work towards a new goal, if she ever finds one.

For now, though, making life fair was her objective.

 Now to work towards it.

 Val has a plan now.

It's messy, and risky, and it's also very self-indulgent, but...

She likes it. And if anything, what with her death and her being reborn into a superhero movie, she thinks she deserves to have a little fun.

And the best of all, if she manages to carry out everything perfectly - and with a little luck on her side - she really can make an impact in how the city's story goes. Or at the very least, save Tadashi and enjoy her new life.

Now let's just hope she doesn't getcopyrighted.
