Eleanor's POV
There was a slight bump as we landed but that was enough for me to set me on edge. I picked up my backpack, climbing up from my seat up to the front of the plane. From there Carolina and I went down the plane’s steps with Nichole right behind us urging us along.
I stepped on to the tarmac, sighing softly in relief. Finally real ground, I had missed it despite sleeping nearly the entire ride here.
It was night I realized with a shock, wherever we ended up it had to be night time.
“I’m certain you are wondering where we are. We are in Tumsa Ietvaros, or the dimension between earth and hell. Welcome to the saint’s schools Night Class, all creatures of the night are welcome here and you two are thought to be such and therefore you are here!” She said excitedly. “Tumsa Ietvaros is Latvian for ‘darkness within’ and is the name of the dimension. I’m sure you are wondering what creatures we believe you to be but for that you must speak to the Headmistress. Come, we haven’t all night long! Soon it will be time for classes to end and we shall be trampled!”
Carolina looked at each other for a moment before rushing away after Nichole and we could both tell what the other was thinking, that this lady has gone on a really long walk off a very short pier way down in to the deep end.
We approached a building that looked as though it was castle, except it looked like it had been built recently. The stones were new and clean with ivy growing up the sides, huge glass windows.
Nichole moved down the hallway at an incredible speed; far faster than either Carolina or I could go, even put together. We entered the headmistress’ office; we took a seat next to each other in matching chairs in front of a mahogany desk. We only saw they are for about 6 minutes before in the Headmistress herself arrived. She was a stern looking woman, she held herself proudly and stood with her back perfectly straight. I realized then that she would not take any nonsense on our part, not even the slightest bit.
“Good Evening, or is it Night now? I’m sorry, I can never keep track.” She said with a slight smile but I could tell she was simply saying this just to get us off edge. She knew the proper word to use now; and I was nearly certain she also knew the time, date, year, and exactly what her husband had eaten for breakfast on this date two years age.
She had a ring on her finger and many photos of her with a man and then with some kids. It had to be her family.
“Hello Headmistress Blackwell- Hewitt. I am Eleanor Leeta Godfrey.” I said softly, so as not to offend.
“I am Carolina Sampson-Rosenthal. It is a pleasure to meet you Headmistress.” Carolina said cheerfully with a smile.
The headmistress merely nodded in response. “It is a pleasure to meet you both as well. Welcome to Saint Savant Remus Academy, otherwise known as the night class. Today you will have a tour of the school, be assigned a dorm, be fitted for your uniforms, and escorted to the dining hall. Is that acceptable?” She said in such a way as to leave no room for a difference of ideas or opinions.
We nodded mutely and she seemed satisfied.
“Miss Sampson- Rosenthal, would you please await Miss Godfrey just outside my door, I must speak with her on a matter.” Headmistress said and Carolina stood said goodbye and proceeded to leave the room, shutting the door quietly behind her.
Once she did Headmistress turned to me. “Well, you are here on scholarship, everything shall be paid for you so long as your GPA, grade point average, remains above a ‘C’ level. You shall receive a weekly payment of $35, and that shall be pocket money for everyday needs. Food, school supplies, room and board, tuition, basically everything else is covered by the scholarship. Any questions so far?” I mutely shook my head waiting for her to continue.
“You have amnesia; I know that fir a fact. You only remember the past four years of your life, correct?”
I nodded, gently clutching the armrests of the seat.
“Well, your teachers were alerted about this and expect it. That is all.” She said the last bit briskly and rose as if to leave.
“Um, I beg your pardon Headmistress, but when did I apply to this school? Or take the exams? How did you find me?” I asked in a rushed. I wanted to know, I needed to know the answer.
“All shall be revealed in due time my dear.” She said with no facial expression but I could hear traces of a smile in her voice.
“Yes Headmistress. I’m sorry.” I said and suddenly I felt the need to make a small and yet extremely elegant curtsy.
When I did she looked shocked. Her eyes darted from the positioning of my hands and legs up to my eyes, which she examined closely. I stopped feeling extremely self conscious.
She finally spoke after a moment of tense silence. “I have only ever known one other girl to have ever done that. She went by Leeta, and every time she saw me she would do that. Are you certain that is your name?” She asked me genuinely curious.
I simply nodded my cheeks blazing.
“Ah well,” She said and led me out to Carolina. We then went to the main office and were handed our rooms keys, and selected our courses. We were then told to have a seat and that our tour guides would arrive shortly to escort us about our new home.
We sat and waited. Fifteen minutes later the door to the office opened with a chime as the bells attached to the handle were jostled.
I looked up and stared in to eyes, the ones of the boy from my dream. The Victorian boy; who was mine, as I was his. And here he stood before me; I swallowed silently and waited for something to happen.
