There once lived an overly anxious and introverted girl named Calla.
She wasn't really popular, but she wasn't a complete loner either. She was just a girl who lived by her own set of rules, even if that meant being alone sometimes.
For the most part, she didn't mind being alone; she enjoyed her own company. Though the silence would often grow deafening at times. She dreaded the thought that she might have to get used to it, but she wasn't entirely alone.
She had a best friend. Her name was Lily.
She was on an entirely different level than Calla. She was largely popular. She had loads of friends, and yet she would come home to her very best friend.
Lily didn't mind that Calla wasn't as social as her. In fact, she was kind of happy that she had her all to herself. She, of course, felt horrible for thinking such selfish thoughts, but nonetheless, she was glad she had someone she could be herself with.
For Lily, being herself was something she could not excel at.
Calla and Lily were both alone in different ways, but they had each other. The girls lived in a beautiful little house on top of a cliff. It was Calla's house first. She loved not being around the judgment of others. Lily soon moved in with Calla so she could be close to her.
A cliff is not an ideal place to live when you have an active social life, but Lily made the inconvenient trip into town every day. That's how committed she was.
She had always gone out of her way to please her peers.
It had been that way for as long as she could remember. It only made sense to her. After all, she was completely useless if she wasn't constantly giving herself up for others.
Calla never wanted much of Lily. She just wanted a genuine friend. Calla didn't really understand Lily at times. She's never seen the use in changing herself for other people. That's the sole reason she moved away from others, so she wouldn't have to be someone else in order to be liked. She was the complete opposite of Lily, yet they were such good friends.
