Dads said that they had a surprise for Dani. I was kinda curious about that, but wasn't allowed to ask more questions because that would spoil the surprise.
Like c'mon I can keep things a secret. I'm not a little kid anymore.
The only thing they said about it is that Dani has been feeling poorly lately. She hasn't been going to school and spend tons of times in her room. Neither I have seen her since we went to look for frogs.
I did see dad go in with hydration bags and sometimes feeds for feeding tubes.
But today I could see they had some relief on their faces. Mom said that Dani hasn't been feeling that well, they suspected a flu, but it was actually a chronic thing that played up. Mom also said that she has been having trouble breathing. They call it asthma. Dad said something about Dani having troubles walking and using her arms. They named it hyper mobility and chronic pains. The last one spooked me a little. That means that Dani has been in pain for a long time while no one noticed.
There was a knock on the door that pulled me out of my thoughts. The door opened and I heard paws hit the floor. That's weird I thought to myself.
That's when I saw it. A golden retriever walked into the door. He had a vest on that read "service dog". I walked up to the dog and smiled. "Shadow, this is Mav, Mav here is gonna help your sister" Dad said sounding relieved. They then walked with Mav to Dani's room. As soon as they opened the door, a smile appeared on Dani's face. You might not know it but Golden Retrievers are Dani's favorite dogs.
"You can give him a task dear heart" mom said smiling. Then Dani says "Mav legs pain". Mav jumps onto the bed and lays down on Dani's legs. Dani's face turns into a smile and she pats Mav. Mav doesn't seem to mind and keeps focused on Dani.
I watched them and looked at my parents. "How is Mav gonna help her?". Dads were startled "oh sorry Shadow didn't see you there" dada Jon said "Mav is gonna help your sister feel better, you see him now laying on her legs, it called compression therapy, Mav is also trained to get things like her waterbottle and even get her some other things. You see if Dani would fall or fainted he would get help". I looked at Mav and couldn't help but feel a little jealous. What if Mav takes over everything I do for Dani? Will I be forgotten?
Mom noticed I was overthinking "dear heart are you alright?". I thought for abit and then nodded. She took me to another room "hon I can see that something's bothering you, what's wrong?". I sighed "what if Dani doesn't need me anymore now that she has Mav.". Mom couldn't help but smile "Shadow you are her brother, nothing will change in that, just Mav will help her so she can be normal again. Well normal as in feeling a little bit more healthy". Mom then hugged me.
We went back to Dani's room and saw that she was a sleep. Mav was still laying on her legs. Mav lifts his head and looks at me. I look at my dads and they motion for me to get closer to Mav and Dani.
I walk up to the bed and sat down at the foot end. Mav moved his paws and we heard a sigh come from Dani. She had woken up. "Just in time for some hot choco" dada Jon said holding a tray filled with choco and marshmallows. I sat down in my own bed. Dani took her choco and holded it in her hand. Dad then walked over to me and gave me mine.
I stared out of the window watching the sunset. It was a beautiful sunset. I took my phone out and took a picture of mav laying on Dani's legs.

He looked so peaceful a sleep. Maybe I will like him anyway. Well I already do since he helps the person I care about the most.
