" Lee Jiheon, please make your way to the principals' office please, thank you!" The loudspeaker beams across the side of the corridor. I shut my locker and walk down the corridor, recieving a few looks. "What might they want me for now? Is it because I was eating in the back of the class with Han again?" I think to myself. I shook my head no, before walking over to the principals' office.
As soon as I enter the room, the principal puts the documents he was working with down and sits up straight. "Aaaah Jiheon! Please sit down!" He says moving his head towards a chair on the opposite side of him, indicating for me to sit down and I do as he says. I was fiddling with my fingers since I was very nervous and the awkward silence in the room wasn't helping either but finally he spoke. "Jiheon, I have something important to discuss with you." I nod indicating for him to continue. "I don't want you to worry too much but your university fees are still pending to be paid and you have been debted to us for a while now, and the higher-ups of the school are threatening for you to pay the fees or you will be suspended." He says his lips placed tightly pressed together in a tight line. "I'm so sorry sir, but im trying to tackle both school and work at the same time, so could you please be a little bit more understanding and pull the fees due date?" I ask him pleadingly but all he does is give me a sympathetic look. "Im sorry Jiheon you have a week left to pay up." He says ushering me outside the room. I nod in understanding before leaving.
As soon as I went out the room, I found Felix and Han waiting for me. "What was it this time?" Felix asks me eagerly. "I have to pay my school fees within a week or else I will be suspended." I say, my head hanging low. They come over and hug me. "I told you Jiheon! I can pay for your fucking fees, it's not a big deal. We have been friends since we were in diapers, my parents won't mind!" Han says squeezing me. "Ji this is my school fees. That I will pay for myself but thank you so much for the offer." I say leaning my head on his shoulder. But we were soon cut off when the bell rings. "We have all got Biology, lets go together!" Felix says pulling my hand.
After school~ I fiddle with my keys, before successfully unlocking my front door, but as soon as I do, I almost immediately wish I hadn't. I see my dad sitting on the couch with my stepmother and another couple. "Are they having a double date?" I think to myself. "Oh! Jiheon!" My dad exclaims as soon as he sees me. "Mr and Mrs Hwang, this is my daughter Lee Jiheon." My dad says. I was a bit confused but I still went up to them and bowed. "Wow! She's respectful and beautiful!" The lady, I assume was Mrs Hwang says. Mr Hwang nods in agreement. "So tell me about yourself darling!" Mrs Hwang says motioning for me to sit next to her. "Um, I'm Lee Jiheon. I go to Seoul performing arts University. I live with my dad and step mother, I'm 20 years old turning 21 in 2 months." She smiles at me and I smile back then I give my dad a 'who are they?' look.He returns it with a 'shut your mouth and do every thing they say look' I just roll myself and turn back to the woman who was discussing something with the man. A few seconds later they both turn and look at my dad. My dad nods and then she faces me and says "Jiheon. This might seem a bit sudden, but darling listen carefully." She takes a deep breath before continuing, "I have heard from your father that your University fees are overdue to be payed and you might get suspended, you are a beautiful young lady who is fit for my son, not a gold digger nor are you using him for status so I came up with a deal. You marry my son and we pay for your university fees and let you graduate properly. Think about it, are you ready to get married in return for an amazing future? I promise my son Hyunjin is handsome, respectful and honestly every girl in Korea has their eye on him." I look at my dad confused. I still can't process any of this. My dad just nods vigorously, iv always been a complete failure for my dad, he is a genuine and honest man but ever since he married my stepmother, she has been ruining and draining him without him even noticing. I honestly pity that man. "Yes ma'am, I will do it." I tell her. She claps her hands excitedly. "Thank you dear, now please sign this contract to permanently decide this. And you can call me mum from now on." She says handing over a document to me. I quickly put my signature before fake smiling to her. "Perfect. Now...I know he's a mafia boss and it might be a bit intimidating at first but-" she says but I quickly cut her off, "I'm sorry ma'am for cutting you off but did you- did you just say he's a m-mafia? He's THE Hwang hyunjin? The one that mercilessly killed hundreds? The one who slaughters innocents and deals with drugs? Are you talking about him?" I say, my heart beating so fast. She just nods."That's right! That's my son. But I'm afraid sweetheart you've already signed the contract, you're both getting an engaged in 2 months and I will pay your fees tomorrow!" With that she leaves the house.
I look at my dad in disbelief. I run to my room with tears strolling down my cheeks. That's it. I'm done for.
