Rayana lay awake that night. She'd lost so much and yet she hadn't really lost much at all. Her sight, was gone. Her independence, was gone. Her capability to do simple tasks, was gone. By the time sleep first caught her attention, she was sure the sun was starting to rise despite the fact that no light was penetrating the eternal void of darkness she'd found herself in.

Rayana woke up, startled at the sight of a bright white spark. She bolted up and rubbed her eyes.

Nothing was there.

She must have imagined it. Trying but failing to all back asleep, Rayana pulled her self out of bed and began the tedious task of getting herself dressed. She thought of how she'd sort her trunk out once it was used and disorganised again and felt embarrassed at the thought of asking someone for help. She wasn't proud, no, she was just a burden.

She made her way down to the common room after confirming her clothes were fine by asking her talking mirror. She'd never really used it much before today.

"Rayana, good morning!" Harry called out.

"Harry," Rayana nodded "I didn't think you were an early riser," her friends were still asleep.

Harry walked over to the notice board, "quidditch tryouts are in a week's time," he read out "what's quidditch?"

"Oh, a bit like football. It's played on broom and each house has their own team. The quaffle, you score with and the two bludgers you have to dodge. And also the snitch, the seaker to catch it gets their team 150 points and that's when the game finishes." Rayana thought for a minute. She had wanted to tryout as a chaser, she wasn't sure but the decision had now been made for her, hadn't it.

Harry sensed her sudden distraughtness, "should we go to the library then?"

"Yeah, excited?"

Harry nodded and although Rayana couldn't see, she knew. They both weaved in and out through the corridors, which were as silent as a graveyard on Halloweens night. They entered the library.

"Good morning, Madam Pince," Rayana's hearing and general attention to her surroundings was remarkable.

"You too, Ms Black, if you need any help, please don't hesitate to ask."

Harry and Rayana moved further into the shelves before Rayana muttered a few directions. Harry picked up an ancient looking book, it was heavy as though the book was weighted with a forbbiden knowledge. He read out a few things that sounded like hisses when he could really understand everything.

"A parselmouth's guide to healing," was the first chapter. Harry wondered how much magic could heal.

"That sounds cool," Rayana asked, sarcasm dripping from her tone. "Care to explain?" She added, holding back laughter as Harry suddenly jeered his head up.

"A Parselmouth's guide to healing." Harry supplied before the bell rang.

"The Hall. Remember to keep up with that book in secret." Rayana checked the book out at the self check. The book wasn't in the restricted section and therefore she had no trouble taking it.

Once at the hall, Harry sat next to Ron and Rayana sat with her friends.

"Where were you?" Ron asked rubbing his eyes.

"Library," Harry replied, not wanting to go into detail. He'd read the book at night, Ron seemed like a heavy sleeper.

"Oh, the timetable says we have transfiguration and then charms. After lunch we have - YES!! - a flying lesson!"
