YOU STRUGGLED EVERY DAY,
as you told yourself school would be worth it.
School was honestly never really your thing. Of course, you were smart but...it didn't appeal to you. So now, on the second day of eighth grade..you dreaded class. To make matters worse, you realized yesterday that you had been put in a seventh-grade class. They basically called you stupid. You only realized this after seeing Heather and Becca repeatedly go into seventh-grade classes.
Honestly, it just made you feel worse. Especially since you only had around three periods with Shuji, not including lunch and free period. Plus, you doubted he considered you a friend. You'd be considering him a friend since he was the only kid you talked to yesterday.
Ultimately, it wasn't up to you whether or not you made cool friends or not. If someone wanted to be friends with you, they would try.
What the fuck. You thought to yourself as you stared at Shuji from across the hall as he made a bunch of odd faces at you. He looked around quickly as if he was checking to make sure nobody was around before yelling. "Yo! Get the fuck over here." You winced in embarrassment at his yelling. Yes, there were people around. Just not people he considered cool because he yelled anyways. You quickly walked over, not wanting him to yell more. "Skip class with me," he announced while wrapping an arm around your shoulder. "No? Why the hell would I do that? You hated me all day yesterday..it was worth it though." You replied, moving his arm off your shoulder.
Shuji scoffed, "sure whatever." You raised a brow, confused at his response. "Yeah...no can do. I'll sit with you at lunch though?" You offered in response. He made a 'why the hell would I sit with you' face and laughed slightly. Honestly, you didn't offer to sit with him to make him feel better. You offered because it was awkward sitting alone yesterday. "Maybe, but we're eating outside because you're definitely not meeting my friends," Shuji replied and played with the cross necklace on his neck. A smile graced your lips for a moment. "Well, you're probably a nerd and the bell is about to ring for second period, you should get going." He informed and flicked your forehead. "Ow- what. I'm not a nerd?" You yelped while rubbing the spot he flicked as if it would make it feel better. "Sure you aren't.." He said sarcastically. Shuji turned around and put his hands in his pockets. "Bye...nerd." Shuji 'insulted' even though you didn't think calling someone a nerd was much of an insult.
He was quick to walk away. You knew he likely could say things much worse than "nerd." He just was going easy on you. You could tell he knew a shit ton of odd insults that would tear apart your sensitive heart. As you stood there, contemplating the idea of friends, Shuji had his back against a wall as he blushed. Though, he didn't know why he was so flustered. A small crush? It was natural. He doubted it would turn into anything bigger.
Maybe it would turn into something bigger, who knows?
Well, the author does but who cares.

Second period finally ended. As you headed to third period, you saw a bunch of signs that read "Dustin loves Maya," or "Brandt loves Maya." You turned to your side to see two girls. One had a bowl cut with black hair and the other was a tall Blondie. The taller one whispered something to the other girl while smiling and looking at the signs. You could hear their conversation. Apparently, the taller one was Anna and the shorter one was Maya. They talked about how Brandt and Dustin are the hottest boys in school and how "it's finally happening." Whatever that meant of course. You could tell it was just a dumb joke though. It was very unlikely both of the hottest boys in the school would have a crush on the same girl.
Not that you thought Maya was ugly, just not pretty enough to pull both Brandt and Dustin. Unless she had a super awesome personality. You watched Maya and Anna get called over to Becca and two other girls whose names you didn't know. Maya walked over to them as Anna pretended to do something in exchange. The girls told Maya she looked different, but in a tone that made it seem like a compliment. You could tell it would all go to shit in a minute.
The girls "complimented" her hair without actually complimenting it. They simply asked where Maya got her haircut, you could tell Maya thought that meant they liked it. Maya responded with a fake salon name, the girls seemed to buy it. Becca complimented her, saying it "worked" for Maya. Becca also began talking about Brandt and Dustin, saying that they thought Maya was, and I quote, "like so fine." Now it was painfully obvious to you that it was all a joke. Maya and Anna didn't seem to notice though. They all talked about how hot Brandt and Dustin thought Maya was. Maya turned around and smiled at Anna, she gave a thumbs-up in return.
How can they be so naive? It's obviously a joke. You thought in amusement.
N A I V E G I R L S are such a wonder.
