You slept deeply, but somehow still woke up before your alarm. You contemplated trying for more sleep but decided to just get up. Taking a deep breath you looked over to your desk, seeing your hero costume was real and still there.
"A big day today." You whispered to yourself as you got up, touching the outfit like it was lucky before leaving your room.
The rare morning when you were up before everyone was usually the best time for you to be by yourself. No mentors or teachers and not even your mom and dad, as much as you love them. Just you. It was lonely, being stuck at home, but you would chalk it up to being a great self-reflecting time.
You wove through the house and made your way to the garden. You hadn't stepped foot in it since that day, the area now clear of any sign that a table was once set there. Your feet bare you stepped on the dew-covered grass, the chill of the morning sending shivers up your spine. You went to the very chrysanthemum tree, your favorite spot, and took a seat. Closing your eyes you took in the atmosphere.
"Well, you're up early." You could hear his steps as he got closer to you.
"I believe the polite thing to say first is 'good morning'." You smile opening one eye to look at your dad. He put his hands up defensively, taking a seat next to you.
"You're right, good morning kitten." He sat with you at the moment, not saying anything more, the sound of his breathing slowly synchronizing with yours.
"Do you think I can do this?" You broke the silence, finally opening your eyes to the world again. He looked at you for a moment, before looking to the sky, a soft breeze greeting you both as the sun continued to rise warming everything around you.
"I do." You didn't need him to elaborate. Those two words were enough. "Let's get ready, we've got people to meet." He grunted as he got up, walking back to the house.
You got ready like you did every day, dressing a little more on the athletic side per your father's advice. You weren't too hungry yet and opted to skip breakfast, grabbing your messenger bag with costume inside. You followed your dad out to his car, a rare experience but you were eager for the ride, hoping it would calm you.
You found the transition from greenery to the city relaxing, watching as buildings started to surround you.
"So, who am I interning with?" You asked, holding the seat belt in your hands tightly as nerves hit you.
"I wonder, I wonder indeed." He smiled like a menace as you rolled your eyes. "Hey kitten, can you see your spine with how far you roll them?"
"Oh my God, dad stop." You cringed, shrinking into the seat as he cackled.
The rest of the ride was smooth, you had zoned out for the rest of it, not realizing the building that loomed over you.
"Isn't this just the Hero Public Safety Commission building?" You ask, confused as your dad got out of the car, walking around to open the door for you.
"It is." He hummed, holding his hand out for you."... what are we doing here?"
"I wonder." He smirked at you, watching as your eyes widened.
He made his way to the door, trailing behind him in a daze, barely hearing him speak to the receptionist at the front desk. He turned to you after, cocking his head to the side, silently saying to keep following. He led you to a meeting room where a very tired man sat filling out some paperwork.
"So you meant it." The man with pale hair and dark eyes muttered, eyes never leaving his papers. "Brought the kid in here."
"Good to see you too Mera. Been a while." Your dad laughed, letting you in the room before closing the door behind him.
