Tom and his men had been given makeshift beds around the Dursleys' house.

Although their lodgings were cramped, Tom and his troops finally had shelter nonetheless.

Tom himself had been assigned to the sofa while his men slept on the floor, in hallways, and on the tile next to the kitchen counters.

Vernon held little concern for his unmarried, unmated, young, lovely niece.

Instead of guarding Harriet, he focused on protecting his homely wife while everyone in the house slept.

Harriet's uncle sat up in bed with his old family musket loaded and waiting, in case any of the soldiers sought his wife out for company that night.

The men in Tom's troop were far too fatigued to concern themselves with the want for an omega.

Spread throughout the Dursley's small townhouse, the floors were covered by sleeping soldiers, relieved to rest with a roof over their heads for a night after months of wandering, crouching, and fearing.

On her small mattress under the stairway's narrow cupboard, Harriet found herself unable to close her eyes.

She couldn't manage to forget Tom's addictive scent or the image of his handsome face.

As one hour turned into two, she tossed as restlessly as her creaky bed would allow before she eventually pulled on her night robe, slipped out of the cupboard, and wandered through the dark house.

The burning fires in the hearth left the rooms illuminated enough for Harriet to see her path, though she grew frustrated once she walked the entirety of the house only to find the sofa empty and Tom.........gone.

Her emerald eyes narrowed in suspicion as she combed each room over again, determined to discover the man she wanted to-

"An omega as beautiful as yourself shouldn't be walking unattended with so many willing alphas nearby." A smooth voice purred behind her.

Harriet whirled around and blinked as she saw Tom Riddle standing next to her with an amused smirk on his lips.

"You startled me!" Harriet exclaimed in a breathless gasp as she pressed a hand over her chest.

Tom clearly enjoyed her bewilderment as he flashed her a smile of feigned sweetness and whispered, "Forgive me, Harriet Potter. I had no intention of frightening you."

A silent second passed between them as they stood together in the darkness.

The soft snoring of the sleeping soldiers was the only audible sound.

".......How did you know I'm an omega?" Harriet asked, eager to find a topic of discussion besides her own desire to move closer to Tom.

Tom took a step towards her as they stood in the entryway to the Dursleys' parlor.

Harriet's breath hitched as she gazed up into Tom's dark eyes.

"There's something about you, Harriet Potter......" Tom mused as he gazed down at Harriet, "Something.........something-"

"-Odd?" Harriet interrupted.

A pout formed on her lips as she spoke before Tom had the chance, "I'm......I'm not normal. My aunt and uncle say I'm strange. Sometimes when I'm angry or.....scared.....bizarre things happen. Things that can't be explained."

Tom didn't bother to hide his intrigue as he asked, "What sorts of things?"

"I......." Harriet shrugged before she looked away and laughed quietly, "You won't believe me if I told you! It sounds ridiculous!"
