Who cares if one more light goes out

Who cares if one more light goes out,

In the sky of a million stars? It flickers, flickers

Who cares when someone's time runs out,

If a moment is all we are? Or quicker, quicker.

-One more Light- Linkin Park

Harry was numb.

He watched  from his spot at the corner as the house elves poofed things from his dorm room into the new rooms he would be sharing with Malfoy. Malfoy who had bullied him for six years, Malfoy who was a death eater, Malfoy that would die if he did not help him. He sighed and thunked his head against the wall. The other boys in the dorms were still having classes, Dumbledore thought it would be best to move as discreetly and with as little commotion as possible. All except Ron of course, because he already knew what was going on.

"How are you holding up mate?" Ron asked from his perch on his bed.

Harry grumbled morosely, "Fucking peachy, just peachy."

Ron shrugged and there was another bout of silence. The only sound disturbing the stillness was the sound of houself magic and Harry's belongings leaving the room that had given him comfort for so long.

"I just starting dating Ginny you know?" Harry whispered as he stared at the ceiling, "I had just started to get my life together and now..." he shut his eyes fro a moment as his hands balled into fists, "Now I am the freaking soulmate of the guy who has made it his personal mission to make my school-life hell over a stupid handshake."

Harry laughed at the ridiculousness of it all, "So tell me, how am I supposed to fucking feel because I don't even know."

Ron was silent.

**********

It was a bit strange.

Draco sat on his bed and watched as more of Harry's things invaded the space they would soon be sharing. He placed his palm on his chest, right over where his heart was rapdily beating. Realistically, he knew that them being within the same living space didn't mean that Harry would like him, if anything the raven might just despise him more after this whole thing and yet...

He could not stop his heart from hoping. He could not stop his veela from longing for some kind of affection from his desired. Sighing, he forced his eyes shut. He had to be wise about this, he could not do too much or he would scare Harry off and while he was sure they could never truly be mates, he would at least be a little satisfied being his friend, if only to slightly appease the constant agony his veela put him through. Enough to at least allow him to see his parents free from the dark lord's control. Then he could die happily.

It seemed the house-elves were just about done because the popping sounds of their magic were done. He mentally psyched himself up when he heard the portrait to the room being opened. There was a small atrium that lead to the main rooms so he had about five seconds to get himself together-

"Malfoy."

Potter was dressed down in those awful baggy clothes of his. He was scowling and he had dark circles under his eyes, so he probably had a restless night. His greeting was curt and annoyed, like he was forcing himself to stay in Draco's vicinity. Smiling wryly the blonde held up his hand in greeting trying not to flinch when Harry's gaze remained firmly on his forearm. He found no reason to hide the blasted thing when Harry already knew about it anyway.

"Potter."

The younger boy nodded and only then did he walk into the room. He did not say anything else, instead focusing on unpacking his things. It seemed like he was trying to avoid talking and communicating for as long as possible still wanting to live anyway but in his reality. Draco hummed to himself, his veela shuddering in delight at being close to its mate. He would give Harry space. His goal was not to win his affections after all. It was to survive long enough to save his parents.
