It's been... how long?

Ivan couldn't tell anymore. Time had become an illusion in the secluded building. He had seen so many of his friends die in gruesome ways, that it slowly became something to just be expected. No longer could he be shocked, all of the memories and feelings were simply numbing now.

But... as their captor, Monokuma, began on his ramble in the courtroom, Ivan couldn't stop the pit in his stomach from growing. Something about the current trial felt different than all the others.

...He knew why. He just didn't want to face it.

After all, the only people left were himself, Den, Christian, Kristine, and Curt.

There was only four possible suspects for murder.

...And they were all his best friends...

Ivan knew the others noticed as well. Nobody wanted to meet anyone's eyes. As their conversation went on, everyone's unease began to kick into their logic. It was messy. Trying to make sense when they were all full of doubt and fear was just not something they could do.

They should've been used to it by now, but preparation was never one of their strong suits.

And knowing who the victim was— it only stung even deeper. She was their friend too, someone they had assumed that would make it to the end with them.

Chilly.

Ivan still shivered at the memory. Her mutilated corpse was just a reminder of how sick this game was.

"We still don't even know who's behind all of this... how am I meant to solve a murder when it's between you lot?!" Christian snarled.

What he said wasn't exactly eloquent, but Ivan could tell what he was talking about. The mastermind.

"When will they show themselves..? Surely, they're the murderer this time, right? Not any of us? I-I can't believe any of you guys would.. really.. murder." Kristine stammered.

Den looked down, tugging on her cap. "We felt that way with the others and we were wrong. But this time... it can't be..."

Curt was being oddly quiet, and Ivan glanced at him. He was scratching his stubble, deep in thought.

Monokuma then said something that shook all of them to their core. "Well... who's to say that these two ideas can't coexist? What if one of you is the mastermind and the blackened?"

Curt glared, "...Why.. why do you expect us to believe that? After all we've been through, one of us would just betray us like that?!"

"We're all friends... even before this situation.." Ivan said, resolve slowly breaking. "There's no way..."

But Monokuma only laughed harder.

"It's time to end the killing game, Recreyo." Monokuma dared. "Which one of you will be the betrayer? The betrayed..? The ultimate despair?!"

"It's Curt."

Everyone looked at Ivan like he was some sort of ghost.

"What?" Kristine inquired, "What are you-"

"It has to be. It only makes sense." Ivan was quiet, but his words felt like they were being shouted amongst the silence.
