There was a sound of scraping chairs and Peter hurriedly and clumsily got up and made sure to stick close to James. Remus wandered loosely behind them but Peter saw him think he lost them in the crowd and suddenly start to look around desperately before seeing Peters eyes staring at him. Sirius was talking with James the entire time and avoiding eye contact with any Slytherins they happened to past.
Peter lost count of the amount of stairs they climbed before they reached their common room. Or entrance anyways. There was still one thing standing between them. A portrait of a fat lady.
"Password?" She asks smiling brightly. After all it's probably the her first time needing to say that after a couple of months.

"Everyone listen up for the password! Hey- you two- stop talking! The password is Scallywallop" the year 6 boy prefect says loudly and the portrait swings open. Everyone clambers inside and the Prefect shows everyone where their dormitories are. "Everyone has the same dormitory placement as last year! Except first years, obviously,"  says a year six female prefect. While the year 7 boy and girl prefect are showing the first year boys and girls where they go.

James, Sirius, Remus and Peter all follow the boy year 7 prefect to find their new dormitory. Their trunks were together in the middle of the room. The curtains were scarlet red while the rug the trunks were laying on was gold. Beside every bed was a desk and a chair with a window over it. On the other side of the bed was a small wardrobe and under their beds were draws that you could pull out. Their entire room was either red, gold or wood colour.

James walks over to a bed that has a window next to it that overlooks the quidditch pitch. "I call this one!" He exclaims looking at the other boys to see if they protest.

If you were standing in the doorway and counting from left to right that would be the second bed. Sirius took the bed to it's left that has a window over looking the Great Lake and throws his trunk on it. "I got this one," he grumbles, sleepy from the feast and endless stairs leading up to their common room. Peter quickly scampers to the bed that's on the right of James that has a window over looking the greenhouses for herbology. "I want this one!" He looks at Remus and Remus just shrugs and does a half nod. Peter celebrates that he gets to be next to James. He's sure that Remus won't mind. He gets the bed with the window with the view of the forest. Who doesn't like the forest?
As it turns out, Remus! Once he sees what his window is facing he instantly shuts his curtains with a groan.

By now, Sirius had flopped on his bed and decided it wouldn't be that bad to sleep on his bed with his trunk also on it.
James, in the other hand, had already opened his trunk and started hanging posters up. Peter hurried to copy James while Remus sat down at his desk and started reading the book that Snape had knocked out of his hand before they got sorted.
That already seems like weeks ago, Peter thinks, yet it was just about 4 hours ago.

James was going on and on about Lily (which was one of the very few things he learned about her). "I mean you can't lie, the name is attractive and suits her shockingly well," he also learned that she grew up in Cokeworth. "And she has a sister name Petunia. Toony, for short," he winks and Sirius.

He just rolls his eyes and groans. "If you are suggesting you want me to get with her sister I'm not going to for multiple reasons. Some of which being, she isn't a witch, she is two years older than us and I'm not attracted to gi-"

"Wait what do you mean she's not a witch? She is too! Just because she's muggleborn doesn't mean she's any less talented than any of us!" James says boldly.

"Oh my god I know! I'm so done with blood purity and what not. Like if I bleed it will be the exact same as Lily's or a muggles except mine might actually be different because of... you know... incest," rambles Sirius. Clearly, thinks Peter, his parents and other relatives have talked quite a bit to him about that stuff.

"Then what do you mean she's not a witch?" Asks James.

"Mate, she muggleborn," Says Sirius, raising his eyebrows.

"Didn't you just say that blood doesn't mat-" starts James, getting defensive before getting cut off.

"HER SISTER IS A MUGGLE!"

James looks at Sirius with a hurt expression but Sirius shakes his head quickly and points behind James, to the other side of the room at Peter and Remus.

James looks at Peter weirdly but he also shakes his head before James's eyes land on Remus.

"Sorry," he says timidly. "I didn't mean for it to come out that harsh but it's true. She's the only witch in her family," adds Remus, who seems taken aback from his own outburst.

"Oh," says James, getting in bed since it is now lights out time. Peter does and the same, Sirius is already in bed and going to fall asleep at any second. Remus doesn't move a muscle and continues reading his book.

"Remus," whispers Peter, who is closest to him out of all of their friends physically and figuratively.
"Hm?" He hums in a response.
"I-it's bed time," whispers Peter.
Remus sighs and gets into bed and draws the curtains before Peter hears a soft "Lumos,"

Almost immediately Peter hears James's footsteps padding across the floor over to Remus's bed and yanking back the curtains.
"Where'd you learn to do that?" Confronts James.

Remus shrugs. "My dad used to do it all the time and it's really just saying the word," he says softly, becoming very aware of Sirius's soft snores from the other side of the room.
James also seems to realize them and decided to go back to bed. He pulls back the curtains and tiptoes back over to his bed.

"First thing in the morning you are teaching all of us how to do that," he says out of the darkness and silence.
"Mhm" Remus responds, quietly flipping a page.
