Siwoo sighed as she stepped out of the bus, her thoughts still lingering on what happened when she tried to text Jiyeon earlier. The words on the screen kept replaying in her mind, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Deciding to let it go, she pushed it from her thoughts and started walking toward school.

Siwoo's pace quickened as she spotted Jiyeon in the crowd. She opened her mouth to call out to her, but before she could, Jiyeon and Bora exchanged a glance and gave her a stink eye. They then turned and walked off, leaving Siwoo standing in confusion. "What the hell is with everyone today?" she muttered under her breath as she started following them, trying not to lose them in the sea of students.
They were quick to blend in with the crowd, and Siwoo found herself struggling to keep up. She pushed forward, weaving through the mass of people, desperately searching for just a trace of her friends. But they seemed to vanish into thin air.
As she continued walking deeper into the crowd, her heartbeat began to pick up speed. Her chest tightened, and the rhythm of her pulse echoed loudly in her ears. She began to sweat, the heat of the moment overwhelming her, and her breathing became shallow. She tried to turn around to escape the growing anxiety, but just then, she tripped over someone's foot, crashing face-first into the floor.
The entire crowd fell silent. The voices and footsteps around her ceased as they circled around the fallen girl, staring. Siwoo, her heart pounding in her ears, slowly pushed herself up and looked at the person who tripped her—Jiyeon. Her expression was cold, mocking even, as she stood there.
Jiyeon reached out her hand, and just as Siwoo was about to grab it in relief, Jiyeon dodged it with a smirk, pushing Siwoo's head roughly instead. The crowd gasped in unison as Jiyeon and Bora walked away, not sparing her another glance.
Siwoo's hands began to shake as the sting from the fall mixed with the reopened cut on her lip, blood starting to trickle down. Her chest rose and fell with each breath, her heart racing even faster.
"Siwoo, are you okay?" A voice came from somewhere in the crowd. Siwoo looked up, still dazed, and saw a hand extended to her. This time, it wasn't filled with mockery, but with kindness. Hesitantly, she reached out and took the hand, letting the stranger help her up.
The girl, a senior, checked Siwoo over carefully to make sure she wasn't seriously hurt. When she was satisfied that Siwoo was okay on the outside, she turned to face the crowd, who was still staring at them.
"HEY!" the girl called out, her voice loud and commanding. "WHAT ARE YOU ALL LOOKING AT? GO BACK TO CLASS!" The students, startled by the sudden authority, quickly dispersed and returned to their lessons.
The girl turned back to Siwoo with a soft smile. "You're alright, right?"
Siwoo nodded, still feeling a bit shaken. "Yeah... thanks," she mumbled, her eyes focused on her shoes as she tried to regain her composure.
The senior smiled warmly at her. "It's nothing." She gave Siwoo a moment to breathe before adding, "Before you go, I need to give you something."
Siwoo looked up in confusion as the girl pulled a piece of paper from her bag and scribbled something down on it. She then handed it to Siwoo with a bright smile. "Here, so you can call or text me anytime." The girl's eyes sparkled with friendliness. "From now on, I'm your best friend."
Siwoo's lips tugged into a small, grateful smile. "Thank you, Chae-won," she said softly, feeling the warmth of the gesture settle in her chest.
"You're welcome," Chae-won replied, her smile never fading. "Take care, alright? And don't let those guys get to you."
Siwoo nodded, pocketing the piece of paper. As she walked away, her heart felt just a little lighter, a small glimmer of hope breaking through the storm of her day.
