I squint at light shining in from the window, i sit up and stretch my arms. Abby is laying next to me still sleeping, dirty blonde hair out.
I smile a little, I'm so lucky that I stayed here. My life was one big mess before the WLF found me. My hand slipped my glasses as I get out of bed.
some of us are going to scout out a old firefly base in Jackson for new recruits. Abby thought it would be a good idea if I came along, since I haven't been going out on long mission's lately. Isaac agreed to let me go because they were probably going to need a second doctor if anything went wrong.
I hear Abby move in the bed behind me as I get ready "what time is it" she groans " I don't know but we're probably leaving soon" I answer, throwing on a black tank top. Then brushing out my long black hair and clipping the front of it back.
I hear Abby get out of bed. She walks up behind me and gives me a peck on the cheek wrapping her hands around me "Morning gorgeous" she says with a sweet smile "Morning" I turn my head and kiss her.
Suddenly someone knocks on our door making me and Abby's head turn towards the sound.
Abby looks a little annoyed as she answers the door. Mel is standing there " sorry to interrupt but we're leaving in 30 minutes."
I braid Abby's hair and quickly get everything we need and leave with the group.
It's been 2 years since the WLF recited me. I had ran away from the Boston QZ. Fedra had been trying to find a cure, all because there were rumours that someone was immune. they started experimenting on people as if they were animals.
I'd been leaving in the QZ since i was born. It was safe, well as safe as it could be. but when my mother and younger brothers died, I didn't know what to do.
It was just me and my two younger sisters. I started getting all our lives back together but we were chosen to be tested on for a cure. They took us against our will.
Both my sisters died due to the testing. I almost gave up, I'd lost so much and I didn't see a point in living anymore.
But why should I die? That's so stupid. Someone needed to stay alive. Or all this suffering was for nothing.
So I ran away and ended up meeting the WLF. And that's how I got here.
We've been traveling for a month. All of us are resting at some run down mansion. its fucking freezing. Abby and Owen had gone somewhere a while ago, but I trust that nothing is going to happen between them, at least I hope so.
After a bit Owen showed up without Abby? "where's Abby?" I ask confused "she'll be back, I just came back a little before her."
I let out a sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose "did you at least find something well you were out" Jordan asks leaning against a wall.
"Yea we found a city, Its huge they even have electricity. That son of a bitch has to be in there" Owen says enthusiastically
"Who? why were you out that far? I thought we were going to the firefly base." Isn't that the whole point of us coming out here? Owen looks at me like he just said something he shouldn't have.
"guys look outside" Mel loudly says. We look through the window and spot two houses rushing towards the gate. Immediately everyone pulls out there guns and starts running out side.
"Athena stay here" Owen's yells out on his way out the door. I stay where I'm standing, holding on to my gun. I watch through the window as they shut the gate and set the infected on fire. And I see Abby, thank god she's okay. she's with two other men?
They seem to be friendly so I put my gun away and sit down on the couch. After 5 minutes they walk through the door.
"you are nothing but lucky" I hear Owen whisper to Abby. Abby sends me a reassuring glance letting me know shes okay. Owen looks pissed, him and Abby both go off to a corner and talk to quiet for me to hear.
"how long y'all been here" one of the men asks walking through the door. "since yesterday" Jordan answers. " yesterday?" the man asks again. "Yep"
Wait I recognize that voice, it can't be. "What are y'all doing out this way?" The other man asks. No please say this isn't who I think it is. "Oh, just passing through. Do you two live nearby?"
I look up at both of the man's faces. "we do. A few hours down the hill. Y'all should come back with us. Restock before you head out." Fuck. It's Joel and Tommy.
I met Joel when i was 10 or 11, he would help my family out with food, since my mom was to unwell to work and i was to busy taking care of 4 kids.
Joel was always so kind to us, he is a good man, on the other hand his brother Tommy is one of the worst people I've ever meet, he killed my two 13 year old brothers looking for my father who was a ex-firefly. Tommy also got my older brother to join the firefly's.
Abby told me what happened with Joel and how he killed her father, she also told me why he did it. and if I'm being honest I can't blame Joel for what he did, they were going to kill a kid for a cure, that probably wasn't even going to work.
They lied to me. They came here for Joel. Fuck, Their going to kill him.
"I'm Mel by the way" Mel introduces herself as she shakes Tommy's hand "Tommy, this is my brother" I start to quickly get up.
"Joel" Joel introduces himself awkwardly. The room immediately tenses up. Joel looks around the room noticing the obvious change in mood.
"Y'all act like you've heard of us or something." Joel points out.

"that's cause they have." Abby says as she shoots Joel in the leg. Joel lets out a groun and falls to the floor. Tommy yells out as Jordan and some other dude hold him down. Tommy puts up a fight but Nora hit him with her gun 3 times till he passed out.
"Abby, relax!" I yell out moving in front of Joel, who is currently being held down.
"Do you know who this guy is, what he did?! " Abby starts yelling at me "I do. Now stop, what your doing is fucking insane" I say trying to calm Abby down.
"Insane?! He killed my dad!" Abby yells getting in my face. "No shit but your dad was going to kill a 14 year old girl." I try to reason with her.
She gives me a look of disbelief. Suddenly two people grab me and pull me away.
"Let me go" I tell them as i struggle. But they don't listen. Mel tourniquets Joel's leg, you can hear he's in pain. When he sees me his face twists into confusion. I look at him ashamed and sorry. Abby starts walking towards a bunch of golf clubs and picks one up. She walks back to where she was standing.
"Clear out" Abby orders. And they so what she says. Joel just sits there in pain. "You stupid old man. you don't get to rush this" she pulls up the golf club and hits him.
