Max was wearing jeans and a leather jacket, he had his glasses on and his hair was brushed neatly to the back. Charles thought he looked good while he was secretly watching him out of his luxurious kitchen. He was opening a beer for his guest.
"Why did you sound so annoyed on the phone?", said Charles with a barely noticeable smile while handing him the beer.
"I wasn't annoyed at all. Your call came unexpected."
"It sounded weird. Were you nervous?"
"Why would I be nervous?" Max's voice was shaking. He took a sip of his beer.
"I just wanted to know. Maybe you felt forced to be my friend again with all that happened", Charles sat down on the couch.
"Do you feel that way?" replied Max.
"What? Forced?"
"Yes."
"No, I... I don't know", Charles wanted to say that he missed him but he didn't know if it was the right time for that. He didn't know if Max' was ready to face the demons from the past.
Max sighed.
"Did you maybe think of disappearing for sometime?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean like away from Monaco and all of this. It might do you good", said Max while standing next to the balcony door, with his back facing Charles.
"I don't know. With the investigation going on, is it possible?" replied the number 16 with an unsure tone.
"It must be, mate"
