The sun that shined through the windows of the Gryffindor dorm worked as a natural alarm clock, awaking you from your slumber no sooner or later than need be. You yawned appreciatively and stepped out of bed- admiring how quiet and calm everything was. Class started tomorrow, and most of the students wouldn't arrive until later in the day. Hence the dormitory was predominantly empty. As was the common room, aside from you and a few other students. One of those students being Charlie Weasley. You were happy to see him again.

"Y/n!" he smiled at you from where he was sitting. "You got sorted into Gryffindor, that's awesome! I was really hoping you would."

"I'm glad too," you took a moment to admire what the common room looked like during daytime. "It's so amazing here, I can't believe it." It smelled like firewood and books, the walls were adorned with red tapestries and those oddly alive paintings that decorated the rest of the castle.

"Wait until you see the great hall." he laughed. "Do you want to go with me to breakfast? I was just about to head there." He stood up and grabbed his bag.

"That would be great Charlie." you nodded. You followed him out of the common room into a large hallway. There were so many of them in Hogwarts you wondered how anyone knew where they were going.

"Does this place have a map I can reference?" you joked.

"Oh I wish!" Charlie laughed. "I was late to almost all of my classes in my first year."

He turned and saw your worried expression.

"I promise you'll get used to it eventually though. And the professors will surely understand since you're new you won't know your way around. Well, except Professor Snape." he shuddered at the end of his sentence.

"Oh yeah, I had the pleasure of meeting him last night." you rolled your eyes. "It was weird, he was super mean for no reason."

You and Charlie turned a corner, nearing the great hall.

"He despises Gryffindors. No idea why." he shrugged. "Just a miserable old man I suppose. I wouldn't pay him much mind. I sure don't."

You decided to keep the other events from last night to yourself. You didn't want Charlie to know about your inability to keep your magic under control. Even if it was common, you felt embarrassed. Especially since it involved Professor Snape.

"Do you have plans today, Y/n?" he asked. "Maybe I could show you around the castle."

Charlie opened the door to the great hall for you.

"Oh actually I'm going to Diagon Alley with McGonagall to get my school supplies. Maybe when I get back if I have enough time."

"Regrettably, you will not." said a bored voice.

"God!" you placed your hand on your chest, startled to find Professor Snape standing directly behind the doors. You wondered if he always snuck up on people like this.

"Watch your mouth, girl." he chastised, glaring down at you. "I'll be taking you to Diagon Alley. Grab yourself a pastry and let's go. I prefer not to dilly-dally..." he glanced at Charlie. "As some of your colleagues do."

Charlie grumbled at Snape's comment and walked into the hall. He returned with a scone wrapped a napkin, handing it to you. You found his gesture quite sweet.

"I wasn't aware that Miss L/n's legs were incapacitated." Snape remarked. His expression was deadpan.

"Just doing something nice for a friend." Charlie quipped. "Not that you'd know what that means, Professor."

Snape's eyes were suddenly ablaze, burning holes into Charlie.

"How fortunate you are that term hasn't started yet." he sneered. "Else you'd have a deficit of 40 points and a week's detention scrubbing my floors."
