Satan picks up another French fry from the plate and I glare at him. This is a children's play day and if this giant eats all that I've got them then they will get fussy and annoyed. I swat his hands as they reach for more. "I swear to God, Abhimanyu I will kill you." He smiles at me, that God awful smile that still makes me weak in all the right parts.I keep glaring at him as he keeps getting closer. He stops when I am pushed against the counter. His smirk makes me want to punch him in his pretty boy face. His eyes narrow, anticipating a response. I love his eyes so much. Those brown and grey eyes of his. I loved them when they looked at me as if I am the most annoying creature in the world, and I love them now when all I see is adoration and love.
"Chhiiiii!" We pull away from each other at the loud shriek of two girls making a face at us. My daughter and my niece. Aarohi and Avantika both shake their head, very disappointed in us. Satan narrows his eyes at them and lunges forward to pick both of them up in his arms. They laugh as he puts them on the counter and ruffles Aarohi's hair while tickling Avantika. They both scream more than laughing if you ask me, and that brings out a laugh out of me.
Once a week, one of the three brothers, Abhimanyu, Aarav or Ahaan, hold a play day for the three kids. Avantika is Aarav's daughter and Ahaan has a son. Agastya. He is still just two years old and doesn't understand much but he enjoys his sisters company nonetheless. This week is our turn. Since I am a horrible cook who has given up on trying to learn it, and Abhimanyu was in the office the whole day, I've got all the food that the kids would like. Not so much as got as asked Meera ma to cook and send some here. She loves cooking so much she offers to do it all the time.
My eyes turn back to Satan as he feeds both the girls some grapes. Agastya is asleep on the couch already, I'll put him to bed soon. The kids will stay the night together and will then be picked up by their parents in the morning.
We all settle down on the living room sofa. The girls in one corner, saying they are big girls now and don't need to be seated in between us both. I sit on the other end of the humongous sofa with my back against Abhimanyu's chest. The kids are properly fed and are now just munching on popcorn as we all wait for the movie they have chosen to start..
Satan throws his head back against the couch when he sees the intro. Let's say his relationship with Tangled is still complicated but everyone else around him loves Flynn Rider with all their heart. He has watched this film so many times, I am sure he can recite it all from memory.
I look at the children to find them extremely invested in the movie. While the room is all dark with the only light coming from the television, this is my opportunity. I turn my head slightly to kiss his jaw. He looks at me with narrowed eyes and comes forward to bite my earlobe. He pulls away as soon as he did that and drops a kiss to the back of my head. I look ahead and sigh.
"Do not sleep witch. I have plans." A smile blooms on my face at his whisper. Lucky for him, I do too.
The girls fall asleep not even halfway through the film and we each pick one up and take them to Aarohi's bed, where Agastya already is. We lay them down, and cover them with the blanket, before placing enough pillows on the corners of the bed and on the floor to prevent their fall. We both turn to leave and the last thing we see before the door shuts is both the girls turning to hug their brother who is in between them. It's cute and makes me happy to see how adjusting these kids are to each other. I wish to give my children a childhood I didn't have, and I will.
