There was nothing, in the beginning.
But there cannot be nothing, and so the universe was born.
In this universe there lived two gods, The Beginning and Existence. The Beginning who knew nothing for it had not yet learnt, and Existence knew all because it had always been and would always be.
Existence craved the impossible, craved the death it had seen so many mortals cry over, but it was an end to something that never would. The one thing a god could never have.
The Beginning craved entertainment. It was newborn, as young as the universe, and knew nothing but curiosity. It created fickle lives on meaningless planets with low intelligence and watched as they made fools of themselves. Occasionally it intervened to cause chaos outside the norm, but for the most part it just watched the simple things.
This Beginning was more easily amused than any other like it that Existence had ever known. Existence wanted The End to arrive so that, for just a moment, the universe could cease to be. So that Existence could stop, for just a moment.
And so Existence whispered into the Beginning's ear, "Wouldn't you like to join their little games? Wouldn't you like to play along?"
And The Beginning realized it would. Suddenly the longing to join them was overwhelming. The desire to play along. The few tiny creatures that made friends with one another became The Beginnings greatest source of envy. It walked down amongst the creatures and tried to talk to them, but as soon as the mortal creatures gazed upon its divine form, they ceased to be.
They simply stopped existing.
The Beginning felt very angered by this, for the first time ever being denied what it wanted. The Beginning had thought itself omnipotent, unaware yet of all the things a god could never do.
The Beginning flexed its infinite mind for the first time in an attempt to come up with a solution, however it had never been posed such a complex problem before so it did not have all that great of an answer. It decided to up the creatures intelligence and give them a more detailed world, to see what they might do. What might drive their relationships.
First was made a plains biome with a few rabbits, the ears endlessly entertaining to it. It made it so they could hop very high, because that was funny. Then, it gave them a higher libido than any creature before. The only lasting relationships it had ever seen were mates, and The Beginning wanted relationships to be formed.
The Beginning then learned of three new kind of relationships, from the rabbits. First, the bond between the parent and the child. There were no real hardships and the rabbits had a fairly high intelligence, and so there was a pure parental bond between the two. It wasn't very complex, but it was there and it was real. The next was the bond that rabbits shared as siblings. Playing amongst themselves and caring for one another differently than the child and parent bond.
The last relationship The Beginning learned of was the hardest for it to understand. It saw two rabbits of the same sex attempt to mate. Why would they mate if not to procreate? What was the bond? Why did they remain together even if there was no evolutionary benefit? The Beginning did not understand the concept of love- of affection born of anything other than necessity, of anything other than something they had to do.
The Beginning could not understand, not with an intelligence level so low as the rabbits, even if they had the highest The Beginning had allowed so far. Unfortunately, as the beginning had no idea of the reason, it could not imagine what would have to be created for it to understand more.
It decided to just create a new creature, having spent eons already observing the rabbits. However, it had grown fond of the rabbits and their strange ways, so it let them be.
