It's funny how I see your mask
Before you let slip a single word.
I see the emotionless pit in your eyes
As you compliment
And entertainment
Others' opinions.
You cajole others
Into believing that you actually care.
You tell me all of this
On an honest night
And I wonder how you can possibly think
I'd go against my own blood.
You're the self important type of backstabber.
You dodge others
With sweet smiles
and white lies.
You cry when someone sees through your words
And blame society for all this cruelty you have to face.
You expect me to understand
And I do.
But you also forget that
As you mock the man whose blood I share,
You mock me too.
You drain what is ours
Like a weed.
This may be harsh,
And childish
Because what would an 18 year old know
But this is also the truth
I see from my eyes.
I am thankful for your help
Before I knew what circumstances brought you here.
You stand by your words
And I stand by mine.
You mark me with uncertainty.
Oh foolish woman,
We ask the same Lord
For refuge
From others
But what we forget to ask
Is
Refuge from ourselves.
I hope my honesty
And your humanity do not cross paths every again.
