Shay's POV
Once our vacation ended, it was back to work. I worked my butt off and even did a lot of overtime when Blake was at work. I managed to become the operations supervisor in two weeks after. I got home from work and laid on the couch. Pancake was wanting to play fetch. There was a knock on the door and I opened it. It was Sam. "Hey," I stated. I let him in. "What's going on?"
"You gotta come with me," Sam stated.
"Sam, what's going on?" I asked.
"Gallo's in the hospital," Sam stated.
"What? I asked. "Pancake, stay." I left with Sam and went to Chicago Med. I rushed into Blake's room and held his hand. "What happened?"
"Live rounds," Kelly replied. "The fire was igniting the ammunition to go off."
"I took one to the shoulder," Blake sighed. "I'm okay though. I'm fine."
"Blake, you are going on medical leave," Wallace nodded.
"Looks like I'm playing nurse when I get home from work," I replied. When Blake was released, I was by his side the whole time. I would go to work and come back. I did this for six weeks. I woke up and Blake was getting ready for work. "Did the doctor clear you?"
"He will this afternoon," Blake smiled. He gave me a kiss. "I love you, baby."
"I love you too," I replied as he left. Pancake jumped on the bed and laid on Blake's pillow. "You and me both, girl." I eventually got up and went to work. I went into my office and saw the stacks of files on my desk. I poked my head in and looked at Kayla. "Did Steph leave these on my desk?"
"Yeah," Kayla nodded. "She wanted to know if you could get those done."
"Sure," I sighed. "Not like I have a job or anything."
"Have you heard anything from anyone?" Kayla asked.
"No," I sighed. "I did apply for another job at a different location and still haven't heard anything." I got out my phone and looked at it. "Oh my God."
"What?" Kayla asked.
"CPD reviewed my application and l've been accepted into the academy," I replied. "I start in a month."
"Your wedding is in a month," Kayla replied.
"Technically it's my honeymoon," I nodded. "I'll figure something out."
"You can't cancel your honeymoon," Kayla sighed.
"I know," I sighed. I went into my office and called Hank. I sat there while the phone rang. "Come on."
"This is Voight," Hank picked up.
"Hey, this is Shay. Kevin's sister," I stated. "Can I ask you for a favor?"
"Depends on what it is," Hank replied.
"I'm getting married in a month," I explained. "I'm also supposed to start the academy in a month. Is there a way I can get you to push my start date to August?" I looked at the calendar. "I can start then."
"You're getting married," Hank stated. "Not going on vacation."
"My honeymoon is my vacation," I stated. "Which is right after the wedding. Please, Hank?"
"I'll get it done," Hank stated.
"Thanks!" I smiled as he hung up. I walked back out to the lobby. "I don't start till August."
"That was quick," Kayla smiled. "How'd you manage that?"
"I have my way," I nodded. I went to my office and started working on paperwork. After two hours, I got the stack of files done. Kayla knocked on my door. "Yeah?"
"Can you speak with a customer?" Kayla asked. "He's asking for you by name."
"Did he say who he was?" I asked. I saw the guy trying to peer in. I smiled. "I got him." I got up and walked up to him. "Is your tour finally over, Jay Halstead?"
"Yeah," Jay smiled. I gave him a hug. "I know I should've called."
"Yeah? Well, I did," I looked at him. "I was told that you asked for the extension, Jay."
"I did," Jay nodded. "But I'm back now and I wanna make things right between us."
"You left me four and a half years ago, and you think we can go back to the way things were?" I asked. I looked at Jay. "I waited, Jay. I waited eight months, just like you said, and you never came back. You never even called." He looked at me. "Look, why don't we have dinner tonight? Let's have dinner at that little diner on the corner that you like so much."
"Okay," Jay nodded. "See you at seven?"
"Yeah," I replied. Jay gave me a kiss on the cheek and left. I turned around. Kayla and Blane were looking at me. "What?"
"That's the Jay Halstead?" Kayla asked. "How could you move on from him?"
"We broke up. I told him I couldn't wait forever," I shrugged. "I tried. I really did."
"It's his loss," Blane smiled. "You found a guy that can keep a promise."
"And I'm glad for that," I nodded. My work day ended and I went home first. I had to change, after spilling coffee on me earlier in the day. I got changed and grabbed a wedding invitation off the table. I looked at the stack of invites on the table that we had leftover. "I sent those out overnight a couple days ago." I wondering if we were missing anyone. "We're good."
Jay's POV
I was sitting in a booth waiting for Shay. I ordered us two waters. She walked in and smiled at me. "Hey," I stated. I stood up as she walked over and gave me a hug. "You look nice, but you didn't have to change."
"I spilled coffee on me earlier," Shay smiled as she sat down. "Have you ordered yet?"
"No, but I got you a water," I stated. She looked at me. "Did you not want water? I figured it would be what you want because it's what you always ordered when we went out."
"Jay, I still drink water," Shay nodded. "I was underage then. You sorta left right before I turned 21."
"How is your taste in wine?" I asked.
"I like one called Sweet Simplicity," Shay replied, "or Stella Rosa Stella Pink."
"Okay," I nodded. "You like fruity drinks."
"And you can tell that from the wines I like?"
"Yeah, and I know you," I smiled. "Do you possibly wanna hang out again after this?"
"Jay," Shay sighed.
"Everyone get your hands in the air!" a masked man walked in with a gun.
"Just do as he says," I replied. We put our hands up. "I won't let anything happen to you."
"Quiet!" he exclaimed. "Give up everything you have. Cash only!" A masked woman walked in with a bag. "Grab everything you see, baby."
"I want those earrings," the woman stated, looking at Shay. "Give them!"
"Okay," Shay stated. She took off her earrings and handed it to the woman. "Take them. Just don't hurt us."
"Are these real?" she asked.
"No," Shay replied. She shot her. "Ah!"
"Shay," I stated. I got up and the guy pointed his gun at me. "Just let me put pressure on her wound. If she dies, you'll both be charged for murder on top of armed robbery."
