the doorbell rang loudly throughout the house, not once, but five times. everyone was still asleep as it was a saturday, but the ringing woke william up. he groggily stepped out of bed and put on sweatpants. after checking the clock, he shuffled downstairs to the front door, swinging it open without thinking. in front of him was his wife's family, including her mother and father. both of their eyes widened at the sight of their daughter's husband shirtless.
"william... hi!" her mother spoke.
"...martha, phillip. what brings you here," he flatly replied with gritted teeth, "at 8 am?"
the house was still dark, lights off and blinds closed. the sun had barely arisen and was peeking out through the clouds.
"well, we're here to visit."
obviously, william thought.
he sighed deeply as the stairs creaked under the weight of elizabeth trekking down them. "daddy? who's that?" she questioned softly.
"bethy!" martha yelled.
"with all due respect, everyone else is still sleeping. be quiet."
she scoffed and rolled her eyes at william, "oh, it's late. you guys need to wake up anyway."
late? i'm going to steamroll this woman.
the entire family, about seven people, migrated inside the house past william. phillip, who had yet to say anything to him, walked towards the blinds and opened them. the living room was filled with light and william groaned at the sudden brightness. he slammed the door closed as the family made themselves at home, turning on the TV and letting the children run around.
william, greatly annoyed, sped up the stairs while he heard elizabeth converse with her cousins. when he opened the door to your shared bedroom, you were sitting on the edge of the bed, hunched over and unclothed. you slowly turned to face him and spoke with a dry throat, "they're here, aren't they?" he quietly huffed and leaned against the door frame with crossed arms, confirming what you already knew.
"fuck. okay."
after putting on clothes, waking up michael, and encouraging evan to have some fun downstairs rather than sob to fredbear, you four made your way down, with william taking one for the team and leading the way. evan was ecstatic to see everyone, much to your surprise. michael was bombarded with forehead kisses and cheek pinches from the minute he set foot in the room. you sat on the couch in the middle of your parents and william opted to stay in the kitchen, so as to prevent himself from saying or doing anything irrational.
your family was overwhelming. you loved them to the moon and back, you did, but they were so much to deal with. they were incredibly loud and rambunctious, and your parents could be so overbearing, something you would never get used to. you stayed as quiet as you could, only mumbling a few words when someone asked you a question directly. you attempted to simply watch the TV, but it was impossible hear it.
a few hours passed by and nothing had changed, except for your parents eventually badgering william to come sit in the living room, mumbling insults about his "poor hospitality."
"mmmppphh, y/n," your father started while snacking on a box of your twinkies, "i do wunder why yu're the only person in yur household," he smacked, "that dun't have an accent? whut ya been teachin' yur kids?"
"dad, i told you. they picked it up from will."
he slowly turned his head to stare at the aforementioned man, looking him up and down with a scowl.
"ya really cudn't find nobody better'n this ol' rat?" he whispered to you.
your mother chimed in, "oh, please. she doesn't know wrong from right. no idea who taught her that. this is what ya get for not being there enough, phil."
