"What are you smiling at?" Violet asked.

"Nothing," Wilbur grinned.

"Is it because of today?" Violet inquired.

Wilbur looked a little surprised. "I didn't know if you'd remember."

"Oh please. As if I could forget the very first time you made an ass of yourself." She smirked at him. Heat rose to his face.

"At least I didn't bump my head and get a concussion." He retorted.

Violet put her hands up as if she was going to hit him with a forcefield. Wilbur winced and squeezed his eyes shut awaiting impact. He was attacked with merely a kiss on his cheek. "You're lucky you're cute." He grinned and gave her a real kiss. Today was going to be amazing. He took in her scent and taste. He caressed her face and then threaded his fingers through her hair. His other hand pulled her closer by the small of her back. She smiled against his lips. He reciprocated, then pulled away.

Wilbur grabbed her hand and lightly pulled her through the forest, filled with elation. She giggled as they ran through the oaks and inclines. The leaves crunched under their feet, having just fallen in preparation for winter. She started running faster and led him to their spot by the pond. She ditched his hand to go right to the water. He watched as she dipped her cupped hands into the water.

"Look Wil." He smiled at the nickname. She was typically the only one who called him that. His parents seemed to only ever be yelling at him, mostly his dad. Parents always use the full name when they're mad. The rest of his family hardly used his name, it was more common for them to say "kiddo" or "buddy." At this point, it started to feel condescending. He is sixteen after all. "Wil!" Violet persisted, startling Wilbur. "Come here!"

Wilbur scurried over to her. Violet held out her hands to him filled with water and two tadpoles.

"Aren't they cute?" She asked. "They're so fast, they remind me of Dash. Both are wild and unpredictable." Wilbur smiled at her as she giggled, taking in the way her eyes sparkled even when speaking of her mischievous brother. He looked back to the tiny creatures in her hands. Wilbur studied them and grew weary. "What are you thinkin' about?" Violet bumped his shoulder with hers.

Wilbur digger , "I was thinking how these cheeky little tadpoles will grow to be cheeky little frogs who think they're so special because they can sing." About a year and a half ago, Wilbur's mom began touring with her frog band. With his dad already neglecting him for inventions, he didn't need his mom's distance too. But, Violet knew all about this. He needed to stop bringing down the mood.

Violet knew he didn't want to talk about it. She dropped the tadpoles back into the pond, "Come on, let's sit." She grabbed Wilbur's arm and brought him to the preset blanket from ages ago. They sat down and Violet nuzzled into him.

Wilbur snagged her hand and gasped. "Vi, you're hand is so cold!" He held it in both hands and breathed hot air onto it. As he switched off her hands, Violet laid her head on his shoulder.

"Wilbur...when are we going to tell our parents?"

Wilbur sighed and lowered their intertwined hands. "I don't know. I mean...once they find out we're dating it's only a matter of time before they find out we're dating people from different times."

Violet sat up, "but it's only a matter of time until we tell them we're dating! If we continue like this we'll end up eloping."

Wilbur's eyes grew wide, but a smile crept on his lips, "you want to marry me?" Her eyes popped out of her head. "Vi, we're sixteen."

She hit his arm, "you know what I'm saying!" Wilbur chuckled as she continued. "I want my parents to meet this incredible boyfriend of mine--no pun intended." Wilbur glanced at her with warmth in his eyes. "I want to stop sneaking around so I can take you home." She started playing with his scarf. "Wil, you are so funny, kind, smart, handsome," she giggled as she traced her thumb over his cheekbone. "I want to show you off," Violet whispered. She tugged the scarf forward and kissed him.
