KEISUKE HELD HIS HAND OUT, the pieces of Everlasting coming together as Mikazuki's Goldslayer materialized in the air. The katana fit smugly in his grasp, fingers clutching the purple hilt as the polished blade reflected Kei's stare. There was conviction in his eyes, the kind that wrecked through every assumption Asahi had ever had about his son.
"Here's what we're going to do." The golden boy commented as he became accustomed to the weight of the katana in his hand. "I'm going to kill you, and you're going to die."
It was as much of a promise as it was a threat. Like a line in the sand that kept dripping through an hourglass. Except there was no line, because Keisuke had obliterated with a single move. A divine move. Asahi had always been a man of games, and now it was time for his son to teach him something new.
Asahi pursed his lips, anger visible in the taught lines of his pale face.
"Kill me?" He asked, somewhat amused as he summoned his gold, all pretence gone from his tone. "This is my game. You think you can beat me at my game, you foolish boy?" His anger escalated, and like a ball of fury and wrath, his gold flared around him all hard edges are sharp end, the glow around him like a halo of death. "You think you can kill me? Me? I'm the strongest sorcerer alive, The King of Sorcerers, you can't kill me!"
Asahi threw himself against his son, commanding his gold to tear him to shreds. Keisuke didn't move, he didn't even blink. Instead, he tilted his head to the side, quietly watching as his father's attack turned to glitter the moment he hit the barrier of his Eternity. Asahi's gold melted into nothingness, flakes of golden dust falling around him like snow as the power of his attack faded out.
Keisuke felt his lips curling, a sense of relief washing over him as his Eternity crackled like lightning. The younger Kinzoku was no longer afraid; of his father or himself. Because, the gold inside of him wasn't something to be feared. It was him; it was her – always had been, always had been.
"What? No– How...?" The man mumbled, immediately falling back and stepping away from his golden child.
Keisuke remained calm, the blade still in his hand, the hilt cold under his touch. He didn't seem rattled nor scared, a strange calmness watching over him as he watched his father syphon whatever power he could. The Kinzoku heir remained still. It was an unnatural stillness; the kind that made Asahi's breath die in his lungs while confusion and fear slithered through his senses.
But this was his domain, and Asahi had lost the moment he'd set foot inside it.
"Keisuke, son... please. We don't have to do this." Asahi pleaded as he stepped back, feet fumbling in the solid golden mass that was the floor. "We can talk, we can discuss things like men do. There's no need for such drastic measures..."
Kei couldn't help but smile, bringing down the word as he placed the edge of it under Asahi's chin. The metal was cold against his skin, but the King of Sorcerers remained still. He could feel the gold around him twisting and turning, another threat growing in the distance while his son set his glacial sight on him.
"Kei..." He sobbed, Keisuke's face twitching at the nickname. "You don't want to do this."
The heir tilted his head, blinking slowly.
"Oh, but I do." He said, no hint of dishonestly in his tone. "I really do, but..." He sighed, his hard expression wavering for a single second. "My sister wishes for me to spare you, and although I could take her power and kill you here, I will not betray Mikazuki's trust."
Keisuke sheathed the sword and as soon as the blade disappeared into the leather holster, the domain vanished. The gold melted away, every glistening inch of the death trap fading out as reality slowly started to set in. Asahi stumbled back, finding himself in the middle of the ballroom surrounded by a rapt crowd. The King of Sorcerers was kneeling on the ground, his robes soaked with his daughter's blood, his own form small and shivering while his son stood over him, a triumphant smile on his face.
