Regina exhaled in exasperation as she fumbled with the zipper of her dress. She jumped slightly when she felt someone's hands firmly grip her waist. She looked upon in the full length mirror to see Robin's dopey smile in the reflection. Regina couldn't help but chuckle and look down in slight embarrassment.
"Allow me.", he offered sweetly, already zipping the dress up the expanse of her olive-toned back.
"Thank you.", she smiled brightly.
Robin softly kissed her neck, then met her eyes in the reflection. "Where are you headed, my love?"
"I was hoping to get us coffee from Granny's without waking you. It seems I've failed."
"Roland woke me, he and Henry are going with Emma for breakfast.", he apologized with a lopsided frown.
Regina nodded, resting her hands on his. With Roland always puttering around the house, and Henry visiting and spending the night quite often, they hardly ever had time to themselves. Even the tiniest moments like this meant so much to her.
"Well, since the boys are away, perhaps we could get those coffees and go for a stroll in the park?", she suggested.
"Perhaps.", he mocked with a cheeky grin.
So the two of them headed into Granny's and ordered two lattes. Of course they stopped to say hello to Henry, Roland, and Emma, assuring they'd be back soon. After that, they were off.
The walk itself was rather quiet. Most of the time was spent with little observations and glances with soft eyes and cheesy smiles. It was a quiet morning, nothing but birds chirping and distant sounds of those heading off on their work day. A few children were running around the grass, squealing and laughing happily. Robin glanced over and smiled, though he looked slightly disappointed when he faced forward again.
Knowing him all too well, Regina instantly knew he had something on his mind. "What?", she questioned curiously, stopping them both from walking farther.
" Do you-", he sighed, trying again, "Do you ever think about having a child?"
Regina's heart dropped. What was he getting at? Did he mean he wanted a child? Was he maybe hoping she didn't, because he didn't want to have a child? Questions whirled through the mayor's clouded mind. Her heart was heavy with regret at this very moment.
"Not particularly, no.", she responded honestly, "We have Henry and Roland. I'd say we have a pretty full house."
Robin nodded in understanding. "Regina, I want us to have a baby."
He took her hand softly, and gripped it. "I know it sounds so sudden but I'm finally where I want to be. I want to have the chance to have a family, and raise a child with the woman I love."
Regina furrowed her eyebrows sadly. "Robin, I- Now's not the best time. Not with Zelena being pregnant also. I still have to help Emma, she took the darkness for me and I-", she sighed. "Things are stressful enough."
He nodded in understanding as he kissed her forehead apologetically. Moments of silence passed.
"I can't have a child...", she whispered hurtfully.
"What?", he questioned, highly confused.
"It was a long time ago, back in the Enchanted Forest. My mother sent a fraud posing as you, she wanted me to have a child. I knew he wasn't my soulmate and I was upset. I drank something, and now I can't have children."
"Regina how could you do that?"
Tears formed in her brown eyes. "It was before I met you. If it could change it, I would now."
"Regina, do you truly want to have a child. Not now, but sometime?", he questioned.
She merely nodded. There was no denying the truth from him. He gripped her hands softly.
"Then we'll fix this. Together."
