About an hour into the 16 hour drive, Rachelle starts asking questions about the small town of Landburgh.
I did some research on Friday night, Landburgh is a small town of about 7,000 people. It's your typical small town, nothing special.
"So what's there to do in Landburgh Mrs. Gonzalez?" Rachelle asks innocently.
"Oh not much, there's a park, some shops-" My mom says.
"I went online and read about this legend there!" I use my storytelling voice," Once upon a time, there was a family of 3 who lived in a mansion in the woods. They were perfect, or so the town thought," I pause," One day the little girl was playing in the yard when she heard a scream. She runs through the sea of flowers to the door and," I pause again," to her surprise, she see her father with a bloody knife. She's scared and confused.
"Daddy what's that?" she points to the knife.
"It's ketchup sweetie."
She asks another question," where's mommy?"
"Mommy's sleeping."
The little girl doesn't believe her dad. She runs past her father, who's now screaming for the little girl to stop. The little girl runs to her parents' bedroom. She sees blood everywhere.
"MOMMY?" she runs to the bathroom, "MOMMY?" She looks in the closet, her mother is there.
"Alexis Run." the mom manages to gasp out.
"Mommy no i'm not leaving you." She runs into her mom's arms.
The father runs into the closet and sees them. He has evil black eyes now and the same bloody knife.
" Alexis get away from your mother right now."
"Do what he says sweetie" the mother whispers.
"HEY SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH."
The little girl then nods and follows her father. He takes her down to the basement. She's never been down there before, so she is terrified. The father puts the light on, she sees a chair. There's blood all around the beat up, wooden chair. He sits her in the chair and ties her up.
"I'm sorry but you've seen too much now. GUYS COME OUT."
She sees another door to the left side of her. It opens and a couple of people walk out. They gather in a circle, holding hands, and start chanting some ritual. That's when the little girl notices the circle around her has random lines of chalk connecting her to the bigger circle, where the people are standing. No one knows what happened after that." I finish.
"No way Val, you just made that up." Rachelle says.
"No I read it on Creepy Pasta." I say. Everyone knows Creepy Pasta to be just stories.
"Valerie, The father was just crazy. That's probably some scary story some one's parents told them to keep them out of the abandoned house." My mom says.
"Yeah, of course the father was crazy. I also read that he still lives there and the girl is still alive trapped in the basement." My mom is acting weird now.
"Let's talk about something else. This is nonsense. I don't want to hear about this bull anymore." She says in a "there's-something-going-on- "type of way.
I start playing my music. Rachelle is playing a game on her phone.
————————
I wake up. It's about 2 am and my mom is pulling into a motel. "We are going to stay here for the night okay girls?"
"Okay how much longer til we get to Landburgh?" Rachelle asks.
" About 5 hours." She says getting out of the car.
I see a scrawny teenager working the desk. He looks about 6'1, has longish brown hair, vampire - looking pale skin, hazel eyes, and nerdy black glasses. He has on a red polo and khakis, with black converse on.
"Who would be working here at 2 am?" I say to Rachelle.
"He has a job. That's what people with jobs do Val," She says sleepily.
I nudge off the weird vibes and start getting my stuff.
We get into the room and fall asleep as soon as we dress into our pajamas.
——————
The next morning we are back in the car. There's nothing but forest around here. I look at Rachelle.
"There's nothing but trees," She says.
"I was just thinking that too," I say.
My mom chimes in," I'm sorry girls. There's not much to do around here."
Yeah we know.
————————
We finally pull into the house. It's a cream color, One floor?, small front yard, a gate around the backyard, and a couple similar houses surrounding it.
We see the creepy dude next door mowing the lawn. He's wearing a white tank top, black basketball shorts, and white socks on.
"Rach, look." I say trying not to make it obvious that i'm talking about him.
"I know, it's the same guy." She says.
My mom waves at him. "I didn't know Isaac was our neighbor."
Isaac? What a nerdy name.
We start to grab our luggage. Isaac runs up and asks if we need any help.
"That's so sweet of you." Rachelle says, handing him some bags.
"No problem missus," He says. He looks her up and down. Ew.
—————-
We finish bringing everything into the living room.
"I can help you ladies unpack if you would like," He says.
"Thank you Isaac, we would love your company. I'm going to be busy all day tomorrow so you can come over and help Val and Rachelle unpack." My mom says.
We go back to working and begin to move the boxes around.
