This story was from my youth, so long time ago. It was a cold night of Christmas, and I was walking around the village with her, my girlfriend and future wife. She was smiling at me while we were watching the surroundings with a big smile, and listening to the people singing, drinking alcohol, etc. It was a nice view, and a joyful experience.
However, when the party was over, we stayed together for a little while, sitting down on a bank that was on the park near the center of that little village. She was holding my hand and cuddling on my arm, while we just tried to feel the fresh and cold air going through our bodies.
Then, out of nowhere, it began to snow at the village. We were at the North of the country, so it was colder than it normally is.
"It's getting cold out here, we should leave soon." I said.
However, she stopped me and said:
"It's fine. If we catch a cold, we would go through it together. Plus, it's really beautiful to be here right now, watching the snow fall, don't you think?"
"... I guess so." I said while smiling.
"Hey." She called me. "What do you think?"
"Hm?"
"About the future."
"I don't really know. I actually haven't thought on anything about it yet."
"I see..."
"What about you?"
"Hm... I've been thinking about marry you when we graduate, then have a happy family."
She smiled beautifully while I just got shocked by her expression and what she said.
"That sounds great."
"But you know. I've been thinking about time..."
"Time?"
"Yeah. I'm a little bit scared of the time we have to live."
"Why are you worried about something like that?"
"..."
—"Because our lifetime is limited, and it's scary to think about when that time ends."
She said that with a melancholic face, but at the same time, she held my hand stronger than before.
"Even though, we have plenty of time before that time limit comes, so don't worry about it."
"... You think so?"
"Yeah! Also, we have to live our life as fullest as we can!" I was really trying my best to cheer her up while saying that, which apparently worked.
However, I knew she was still worrying about it a lot, even after that night.
A time later, we graduated from High School, got to the University, and while we were studying, we got married, and had a kid; a little boy called Take. We took care of him a lot, making him grow up as a good person, and doing our best to see him reach his dreams. In the meantime, we opened a fruit store together, which had a lot of popularity around the commercial district, and we met a lot of good people in the years that came up.
However, after became an adult and got married, he went to live on the US, and barely contacted us since then.
A time later, when Christmas came, my wife and I were around our early 50's when that happened. She fell sick from an unknown disease, and I tried my best to contact my son to help me, knowing that my wife had not too much time left to live. But he didn't answer any of my calls or messages. Probably he was living his life now, and I wasn't aware of it until then.
