Gwen woke up before Courtney, which was a rare occurrence. The sun wasn't evening peaking above the sky. She looked at her sleeping girlfriend and smiled, feeling grateful to have her in her life. She gently traced each and every one of her lover's freckles, which had slowly been increasing in number over the past two years. Whilst lost in her thoughts, she had the brilliant idea to make breakfast. She used to do it all the time when she was a kid, and had always loved an early breakfast, despite going to bed at 2 a.m. just to then wake up at 8 a.m. She quietly slipped out of bed and went to the kitchen, wanting to surprise Courtney with breakfast in bed.
They had pretty much all the breakfast necessities. Eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, bread, orange juice, coffee. Courtney was a big fan of omelets and black coffee, so she started to make them, but was so focused on not making any noise that she didn't pay attention to the stove, and her hand accidentally touched the hot pan.
She hissed in pain but tried her best to keep quiet. However, the pain was too much, and she let out a groan that woke up Courtney.
Courtney was confused as to why Gwen wasn't in bed and decided to investigate. She went downstairs and found Gwen in the kitchen, holding her burned hand and trying to bandage it up.
"Oh my god, Gwen! What happened?" Courtney asked, rushing over to help her.
"Nothing horrible, I think? I was just trying to make breakfast for you," Gwen replied, embarrassed.
Courtney sighed, "Aw, you don't have to do that, Gwen. I appreciate the gesture, but you don't have to hurt yourself for me."
Gwen looked down, feeling a little ashamed. "I just wanted to do something nice for you. I mean, you're the one who always makes breakfast, and like, all the meals. The only time I cook is either frozen shit or dinner like once or twice a month. I just... wanted to surprise you. I'm sorry I ruined our morning."
Courtney sat down next to Gwen and started to wrap her hand with a clean cloth. "Babe, you didn't ruin anything. Accidents happen, and I'm just glad you're okay."
Gwen looked up at Courtney, feeling grateful for her kindness. "Thanks, Court. You always know how to make me feel better."
Courtney smiled, "That's because I love you."
Gwen's heart skipped a beat. She looked at Courtney and felt overwhelmed with love. "I love you too, Court."
They stayed like that for a moment, just looking into each other's eyes. Eventually, Courtney stood up and said, "Okay, let's finish making breakfast."
Gwen nodded, feeling a little embarrassed again. "Sorry, I didn't get very far."
Courtney smiled, "It's okay, we can finish it together."
They worked together to finish breakfast, and while it wasn't the surprise Gwen had hoped for, it was still a special moment between them. They sat down to eat, enjoying each other's company and the simple pleasure of a home-cooked meal.
As they ate, Gwen looked at Courtney's curly hair and couldn't help but smile and run her healthy hand through it. "You know, I really love your curly hair. Have you ever thought about wearing it natural?"
Courtney rolled her eyes, "Gwen, we've been over this. I hate my curly hair. It's too... wild and unpredictable."
Gwen pouted, "But I think it's beautiful. It suits you so well."
Courtney sighed, with a smirk, "Maybe I'll consider it, but not today."
Gwen smiled, happy that Courtney was even considering it. She was glad that they could have these small conversations, and she felt grateful for Courtney's love and understanding.
