Chapter 2
Hermione awoke the next morning with a lousy attitude. Her first day back at school had been a disaster, she even got a detention in charms for not having the proper guide; it was frightfully embarrassing.
She noticed something heavy against her stomach, rubbing her bleary eyes to focus on what appeared to be a ashy blue stone. Then it breathed. Hermione lay very still, her mind panicking over possible escape routes or conclusions to what was happening. She sharply pinched herself, letting out a soft whimper once she realised that it was indeed a reality. All she needed to know was if it was a dangerous one or not. The creature was small and warm, stirring from the sound of Hermione's fright. Slowly, it unravelled itself from its ball; lifting up its head and gingerly sniffing the air.
"Oh god, a little dragon is in my bed. A little dragon is in my bed." Hermione babbled quietly, slowly sitting up herself so she was staring at the young creature. She frantically searched her room for an explanation for the random dragon now crawling even closer to her; her eyes flickering from the open window to the infant dragon getting its face uncomfortably close to her own. "H-hello?" Hermione whispered softly, extending her hand to touch the creature. The dragon was startled by the touch and sank its teeth into Hermione's finger, the bite barely broke the skin but it was a swift reminder that wild animals are not very good pets as proven by everyone who had ever come into contact with the creatures. Hermione sucked on her finger, wincing from the sharp pain of the bite. The little dragon cowered, shying away from her. "I'm not going to hurt you." She murmured, slowly moving her hand towards the dragon once more; to her surprise, the little creature nuzzled its head into her palm, purring softly. Hermione was taken aback, she knew things about dragons after researching them constantly in the fourth year to aid with Harry's tournament but she had never heard of a dragon which could purr?
Hermione petted the creature gently until it trusted her enough to carry, the heavy lump chirping in her arms and digging its talons into her shoulders as she manoeuvred the two of them into the boys dormitories.
"Harry. Harry. Harry. Harry wake up. Harry!" Hermione hissed, shaking her friends' shoulders. The dragon fluttered onto his bed, twittering curiously as it clambered all over him.
"What Herm-OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT." Harry flung himself away from the creature, falling onto the rough wooden floor with a deafening thud. Ron grunted in his sleep, Hermione froze in fear; straining to hear if any of the other student had awoken to the joyous sound of the chosen one throwing himself out of bed.
"Shhhhh. I found it on my bed this morning and I don't know what to do." Hermione muttered, cautiously picking up the little dragon and cradling it to her chest; her morning frizz ball of hair somewhat entertaining for the little creature.
"Alright, let's be quick before anyone sees." Harry sighed, picking himself off of the floor and sliding on his glasses.
"Grab the cloak just in case Filch spots us." Hermione hissed, creeping out of the room on tiptoes; wincing every time she heard a creak in the ancient floorboards. Harry was close on her heels as the pair scampered down the corridors, stone ice cold against their bare feet. Harry let out a yelp of surprise as the dragon leapt from Hermione's arms onto his head, talons clawing against his scalp as he attempted to throw the creature off of him. Chirping excitedly, the little dragon continued to wrap itself around Harry; attacking his glasses merrily. Mrs Norris slunk around the corner, sitting directly in their path with her red eyes shining in the morning light. The elderly cat let out a howling meow, smugly watching the pair of Gryffindors in front of her freeze with panic.
